Papers aren't isolated and interpretation of results come with context of previous research. Isn't it hard to judge if an interpretation of a correlation given other knowledge at that time is an overstatement?

There are so many new animal markerless pose estimation algorithms. All of which are compared to existing methods, especially @DeepLabCut
Since performance depends on training data quality, I'm never sure if this is a fair comparison.
Does any benchmark dataset exist?
