At #UNGA. Great meeting with my sister, H.E Prime Minister @miaamormottley of Barbados and her dynamic Ministers - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade H.E Kerrie Symmonds and Minister of Health H.E Jerome Walcott. Very focused discussion on the decentralisation of value chains to developing countries to increase trade and help build global resilience, including in the CARICOM countries. Applaud the efforts being made by Barbados with pharmaceutical value chains. Also discussed the importance of WTO Reforms and the role of ACP WTO members in supporting this. Thanks Barbados @Matthewbarbados for your role in coordinating this large group.

#InternationalYouthDay2025
Dear Young People of the World,
On this International Youth Day 2025, I extend warm greetings from the West African Institute of Public Health. As we celebrate the energy, creativity, and potential of young people globally, @WAIPH_News recognises the age-old role youth play in shaping healthier futures. The theme of #IYD2025 "Local Youth Actions for the hashtag#SDGs and Beyond" highlights your key role in translating and shaping global ambitions into community-driven realities.
In Africa and beyond, young people are key drivers of change in health and development. #WAIPH is committed to empowering youth through education, innovation, and partnerships, such as our Young Professionals in Public Health (#YPPH), an annual flagship of the Institute, which trains youths to address pressing health challenges and promote wellbeing, while also fostering community health literacy.
As you navigate your paths, we encourage you to engage in initiatives that improve health outcomes, leverage digital technologies to promote health equity, and advocate for policies that prioritise the health needs of all communities.

Of The CPHIA, Future Whispering and Honour
As Director-General of the West African Institute of Public Health, I can not help but reflect on the critical role that the Conference on Public Health in Africa (@CPHIA_AfricaCDC) plays in reimagining public health in Africa. The CPHIA convened by @AfricaCDC serves as an essential platform for professionals, policymakers, and stakeholders to come together, share knowledge, and explore innovative solutions to the most pressing public health challenges facing our continent.
Now in its third berthing (first as virtual, second in Kigali, and now in Zambia ), one of the key reasons why the CPHIA is such an important platform for reimagining public health in Africa is its ability to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange, something HE @HHichilema touched on during the opening ceremony yesterday. In a continent as diverse and complex as Africa, it is essential for public health professionals to come together to share best practices, learn from one another, and collaborate on finding effective solutions to the myriad health challenges facing the region, a mission that my good brother @JeanKaseya2 has taken on full charge.
The CPHIA provides a unique opportunity for professionals from across Africa and beyond to engage in meaningful dialogue, exchange ideas, and forge partnerships that can lead to significant advancements in public health in the true spirit of #Igwebuike. By bringing together experts from different countries, disciplines, and backgrounds, the CPHIA creates a rich environment and tapestry for learning and collaboration, ultimately leading to the development of more effective and sustainable public health interventions.
Furthermore, the CPHIA serves as a platform for reimagining public health by showcasing and celebrating exemplary models in the field. Through events such as the Lifetime Achievement Award in public health, which was bestowed on @DrTedros a Distinguished Fellow @Thewaaph and groundbreaking DG of @WHO yesterday, the CPHIA is whispering to the future as it highlights the remarkable contributions of individuals who have made a lasting impact on public health in Africa. In the face of a continent's dearth of leaders to be admired, by recognising and honouring these trailblazers, the CPHIA not only acknowledges their outstanding work but also provides a platform for disseminating their knowledge and experiences to inspire the next generation of public health leaders.
The 2023 CPHIA's Lifetime Achievement Award in Public Health is a prime example of the importance of recognizing and celebrating individuals who have dedicated their careers to advancing public health in Africa. By shining a spotlight on these leaders, the CPHIA not only pays tribute to their accomplishments but also elevates their work as a model for others to follow. This type of recognition is essential for inspiring and empowering the next generation of public health professionals, demonstrating what is possible and encouraging them to aim for similar levels of impact and excellence in their own work.
By engaging with these pressing public health issues in a collaborative and interdisciplinary manner, the CPHIA helps to catalyze meaningful action and change in the field. Through workshops, panel discussions, and networking opportunities, the conference fosters a culture of proactive problem-solving and knowledge sharing, empowering attendees to return to their respective communities armed with new ideas and strategies for effecting positive change.
In the #CPHIA2023, I have focused on participating in panels that speak to innovations, digital acceleration, and planetary, for that reason, the conference provides a vital springboard for reimagining public health in Africa. From fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange to celebrating exemplary models and initiatives, the conference plays a crucial role in advancing the field of public health on the continent.
So ultimately, it is about connecting the dots for the future. So, by recognising and honouring outstanding contributions, showcasing successful models, and addressing the unique health challenges facing Africa, the CPHIA helps to inspire and empower the next generation of public health leaders who will continue to drive positive change across the region. As the Director-General of the @WAIPH_News , I wholeheartedly support the mission and impact of the CPHIA and look forward to the continued advancement of public health in Africa through this important platform.
