¿El cacao no se domesticó en lo que hoy es México? 🇲🇽
Nuevas investigaciones han revelado que el cacao no se domesticó primero en Mesoamérica, como se creía, sino en la región alta del Amazonas, en el noroeste de Sudamérica. Evidencia arqueológica del sitio Santa Ana-La Florida, en #Ecuador, muestra que el cacao ya era utilizado hace 5.300 años, convirtiéndose en el registro más antiguo de su consumo en las Américas. Análisis de almidón, teobromina y ADN antiguo confirman que esta zona fue el primer centro de domesticación del Theobroma cacao, redefiniendo la historia de uno de los cultivos más importantes del mundo.
