This weekend, we revealed The Proton.
The Alpha has us at a 300x260x260 volume, and we are expecting sub $1,000 price point, even sub $700 if possible.
But, we are likely a year out from a Beta release. We have a LOT of things to work on.
But notably;
1. Mostly 3D Printed Design (can be printed on a MK3, Beta will aim for a Prusa Mini/Positron)
2. Full Nozzle Probe thanks to Amplify and Ella Fox.
3. The Quark Board, a Power Continuity board designed by our team member Koosh, and allows you to run ANY 24V printer off a USB C power Bank. Your runtime is only limited to the bank, but we had a small one at Printopia and could get 45 minutes when printing on the Proton. Positron, about an hour and a half, and something like a Cocoa Press could run for multiple hours.
4. Still Foldable - can store away easy when a larger printer is not needed.
5. All Metal Heat break to allow temps above 290⁰C
6. Direct Drive Extruder, we didn't have Gluon to show off, but with the new tool head, we plan to have direct drive baked in.
7. Electronics Flexibility - we designed the Proton to support BTT boards, a Einsy Rambo, and a Positron Board, more likely will come.
8. Internal (enclosed) PSU - easy and safe to install, whole printer is sub 400 watts.
9. Dual Layer PCB heater - quickly heat up with both, only use one when on battery power.
Things we hope to change for Beta, but no promises;
1. Simplify CNC parts - currently, they are a bit over engineered, we will likely be looking at bent sheet steel to reduce cost.
2. Improved Quark Board - we want this to be able to not only power the printer, but safely use PD to power your phone or laptop so you can leave one more charger at home.
3. Get Gluon working
