CSOs continue to engage stakeholders amid the US aid freeze to safeguard gains in the HIV response. Today, Feb 13, 2025, CSOs, @UNAIDS_UG’s @jtmakokha, & the @aidscommission met with the PS @DianaAtwine@MinofHealthUG, who reaffirmed her commitment to a sustainable HIV response.
"HIV, TB, malaria, maternal & child health, mental health—all these are at risk. But it doesn’t stop there. The loss of jobs means families can’t afford school fees, impacting education. How is our goverment preparing to respond?" – @lmworeko, Executive Director ICWEA.
"We are talking about 1.4M PLHIV, who have families & other health conditions like diabetes & NCDs. As CSO, we have long warned about this crisis, & now it is unfolding before us." – @lmworeko, ED ICWEA, on the devastating impact of the U.S. freezing HIV response funds.

Evidence from the CLM reveals gaps in addressing GBV in healthcare:
🔸 Emotional, physical & sexual violence persist.
🔸 Lack of GBV screening tools in health systems.
We need safe, supportive environments for survivors to access care.

ICWEA , as a member of the hosts of the WNZ at #AIDS2024, was thrilled to host @barbarakemigisa from Ug.
Her project "A Tale of the Rotten Avocado," focuses on how she contracted HIV thru abuse by her uncles & how her parents forced her to abort & wrap her baby in a plastic bag.
My story and journey to learning my HIV positive status displayed questions on the constant skin breakage that despaired me to loosing confidence in myself as I saw no attraction/presentation of myself in public. Tell your story.
