Last week, Defenders Coalition, in partnership with Amnesty International Kenya conducted a successful two-day training for human rights defenders in Nakuru County under the Towards Accountable and Responsive Leadership for Youth (TARLY) project.
A total of 22 participants engaged in interactive sessions on Monitoring, Documentation, and Reporting (MDR) of human rights violations in the context of elections. The Defenders Coalition this afternoon stood in solidarity with the families of Jamil and Aslam Longton and Bob Njagi, and the Law Society of Kenya in their pursuit of justice through a habeas corpus application to ensure the #Kitengela3 are returned safely to their families. In the ruling, Acting Inspector General Gilbert Masengeli has been directed to appear in court on Thursday at 10:00 am after he failed to comply with an order to produce the three missing persons. We will continue to support the families in their fight for the safe return of their loved ones. #StandUp4HumanRights
PRESS STATEMENT
We, the civil society in Kenya , are deeply concerned by the recent letter by the Government of Kenya implying that civil society fund and support unlawful behaviour and unruly protests, which are a stark contradiction to our work. We categorically repudiate these unfounded accusations and ask the government to remain true to the constitution and protect independent civil society organisations and media in Kenya. #StandUp4HumanRights
