4/4 #WSTC6#PolicySesh There’s huge value in specialists informing policy & advice decisions. Communication between gov advisory bodies & research community is crucial: https://t.co/BeTu4cIM8M We'd love to hear from researchers on Larus #gull#foraging to help inform our guidance
3/4 #WSTC6#PolicySesh We ran a collaborative workshop with policy advisors/consultants/researchers & commissioned #BTOScience gull tracking & Europe-wide gull data meta-analysis with #IBED. We’re developing an ecologically realistic approach to apportion impacts for developments
2/4 #WSTC6#PolicySesh Large gulls forage in marine, coastal & terrestrial habitats so are impacted by off & onshore windfarms. We asked how scientific understanding of gull #foraging behaviour can be used to develop a robust, evidence-based approach for impact assessments
1/4 #WSTC6#PolicySesh Environmental impact assessments assess potential impacts on #seabirds with connectivity to proposed #renewables developments. But where do birds using proposed development sites originate & how do we apportion impacts to Special Protection Areas?
@BillMontevecchi We spent some time talking to locals around Salvage and Keels this past year and some saying they're seeing birds (murre in this case) in closer to shore than they remember in the past. Possibly related? Or have you seen/heard different?
📢WE NEED YOUR HELP📢
Without the vital income from our Visitor Centre our charity's future is under threat. Please help us continue to inspire conservationists of the future and give what you can to our urgent appeal.

We are excited to hear more about what @bobmmop is doing (even during a pandemic) to keep this great program going. We’re also here to support however we can!
Be sure to follow them as they deliver sessions today as part of the #WSTC6
4️⃣ #WSTC6#ArtSesh1 Using #sciart to inspire understanding…like collages, all aspects come together in a magnificent bird, worthy of admiration & protection. 💪😻
#Conservation issues also a mosaic of components, that take varied, interlinking pieces of the puzzle to solve! 🤔🧩
@KatharineKeogan @TheLynchLab@UnityCollege@edgewiseNL@blackbawks There are also some really interesting questions to ask around how local ecological knowledge is disappearing in newfoundland as the population ages and/or moves away! how can we preserve that before it's too late? #WSTC6#DigSesh1
1/4 #WSTC6#DigSesh1 Bonavista Bay (#IcebergAlley) is a unique location to study anthropogenic impacts on #seabirds. Limited monitoring occurs here and is a data gap on the eastern seaboard. We have established #BoBMMoP here to better understand the local marine ecosystem
@Alex_the_finch@IngridPollet So far we're aiming to use it to try and locate new Leach's storm-petrel breeding sites if there are any in the bay. Open to new ideas though - we'd like the area to become a platform for new research in technologies #WSTC6#digsesh1
