I don't love the "as a one-armed paper hanger" tweets, BUT as someone who grew up around govt programs (and had a single mom who went from welfare to work) - part of what drew me to conservatism was the fight to reform these programs.

I saw what they did to the community.

Yep. I appreciate the pipe dream some have of "cutting spending." It makes a great slogan, and has been used to raise money for campaigns for my entire life. Never happens though. Time for real Americans to have access to these funds.

Online heads are exploding over a common sense redirection of existing funds with their primary objection being “But Socialism!” Is it because it has to do with benefits being made available to stay at home families or does the logic extend further?

Hey let’s make sure white people aren’t discriminated against in subsidized college loans. “But Socialism!”

How about allocating federal highway funds to where people live and not build bridges to nowhere? “But Socialism!”

Can we at least make sure our science grants fund reproducible research instead of DEI? “But….Socialism!”

That’s not an argument, it’s a bumper sticker.
