I think it fitting that an everyday American, not a newscaster or state official reads out loud the statement of Alex Pretti’s heartbroken parents at the senseless and brutal murder of their beloved son.

Alex Pretti may have been physically murdered by ICE thugs yesterday, but every American that voted for this, and the 90 million who sat on their hands, today join Trump’s sycophantic enablers, Republican lawmakers and right wing propagandists, who are drenched in the blood of an innocent man exercising his right to the freedom of expression Republicans claim to hold so close to their hearts.

Karen communities around the world reject Burma’s sham elections, call for international action.

We urge the international community not to recognise or engage with this fake electoral process. The Burmese military, after the sham election, will likely try to fake another reform process. EU, USA, UK, ASEAN and other countries must not support such sham processes as they did after the 2010 election. They must not be fooled.  Instead, we call for stronger measures to support the genuine democratic movement, including ethnic resistance organisations, and to endorse the people’s struggle for genuine peace built on equality and self-determination. International governments should support and recognise the bottom up federalism that is happening throughout the country.
