New MRC DTP PhD project is available with David Brough, Kevin Couper, Roy Ng and myself looking at the NLRP3 inflammasome in the brain and brain disease https://t.co/kz0Gk00c9B. Please get in touch with Prof Brough to discuss if you are interested! @BIG_research
Have you submitted your abstract yet? Don't miss out on this great meeting! Fantastic line up (really!!) and great occasion for ECR to present their research for talks and poster!
@takesthatchance@joelgraingerr@Jaisinghhhh Hogg only one trying to bite into tackles today, our press was ineffective. Do we need to have 2 pivots from the start to control the game better, and accept we can't press as high?
@takesthatchance@joelgraingerr@Jaisinghhhh Having Evans / Wiles almost as 2 number 10s when we're in possession (presumably so high up the pitch partly to execute the high press when we're out of possession) makes them disappear, as Hogg and CBs not able to ping the ball into their feet under pressure.
@takesthatchance@joelgraingerr@Jaisinghhhh When we manage to get Evans / Wiles on the ball in a bit of space (e.g. when Evans drops deeper to get on the ball) things start to happen and we can actually play forward. Looked much better with Hodge as 2nd pivot, and it helped Hogg too.
NEW PAPER ALERT! 🚨 And it dropped on my bday, so thanks @braincomms!
C9orf72 dipeptides activate the NLRP3 inflammasome 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻
Huge thanks to @choyle22, @mere_conjecture, @ComorbidCath & the rest of the team not on X, plus @AlzSocResearch for funding.

In some animals, a crucial protein has evolved to work differently, like a chef who no longer needs to be in the control room but still coordinates with the team for a more efficient kitchen.

Our new paper exploring the nuclear role of pro-IL-1α is out now in Nature Comms!

A first for myself as a first author and @choyle22 as corresponding author… go team!! 💪🏻
Such valuable work and support from all the other wonderful people involved ✨
NEW PAPER: https://t.co/uFk4I4Ha4s
Summary: We delve into the nuclear role of pro-IL-1α, using proximity labelling to identify several proteins that may interact with pro-IL-1α in the nucleus, including HATs, and find many species that have lost IL-1α nuclear localisation
We hypothesise that HAT binding may be the primary intracellular role of pro-IL-1α, and the NLS may serve an auxiliary role – either to facilitate binding to HATs in the nucleus, or instead it may be related to IL-1α trafficking and release
Our paper is now out in @CellReports! Please give it a read, particularly those interested in #microglia, #macrophages, and #stroke. We show the MNP response to stroke is all about where you're from (ontogeny), where you're at (space), and where youre heading (substates).
My first ever research paper is out !! 👩🏼🔬🎉

A natural product "brazilin" inhibits the NLRP3 inflammasome pathway, a key driver of numerous inflammatory human diseases including those affecting the brain such as stroke and dementia.
An exciting PhD opportunity to join my lab studying NLRP3 inflammasome in vascular dementia. This project is in collaboration with @KasherLab Prof. David Brough, and Dr. Ingo Schiessl. Please contact me for details ([email protected])
