🦋 The Butterfly Nebula’s cosmic wings have never looked better, thanks to observations from both Hubble and @chandraxray.
This nebula formed after a star like our Sun used up most of its fuel and shed off its outer layers of material: https://t.co/bjvEFeKj0Y
Today Chandra is studying stars in Canes Venatici. Nearby in the sky in M94, new stars are forming rapidly within a bright band called a starburst ring. The ring is likely caused by a pressure wave moving outward from the galaxy's center, compressing gas & dust in outer regions.
We just finished deploying our sunshield today, but wait, there's more!
#NASAWebb's secondary mirror is planned to be unfolded tomorrow, Jan. 5th, in the morning (Eastern time). Read more at the blog: https://t.co/tlNmsf2UL7 #UnfoldTheUniverse
The year 2021 was one for the books, so what will 2022 bring? No matter what, remember: You are made of star stuff. Sparkly, glorious star stuff. ✨
#HappyNewYear from all of us at NASA!
It’s been a busy evening! Not only did we just complete our second burn, but #NASAWebb also passed the altitude of the Moon as it keeps cruising on to the second Lagrange point to #UnfoldTheUniverse. Bye, @NASAMoon! 👋 🌑
Join the @NASASpaceflight team on Christmas morning for launch of the James Webb Space Telescope. Liftoff is scheduled for 7:20 am Eastern (12:20 UTC).
@ChrisG_NSF is on location in French Guiana.

There's no place like our home.
#OTD in 1992, on its way to Jupiter, the Galileo spacecraft looked back at Earth from a distance of nearly 4 million miles (~6.4 million km). If you look closely at this composite photograph, you can spot Antarctica through the clouds!
Our preprint on Simple Standard for Sharing Ontology Mappings has been submitted and is up on @arxiv https://t.co/gb2hkEwwMl. SSSOM is a datamodel and exchange format for mappings between database entities, #ontology terms, etc. Thanks to @NicoMatentzoglu for spearheading this!
We’ve touched the Sun! ☀️
Announced today at #AGU21, NASA’s Parker Solar Probe has officially become the first spacecraft to fly through the Sun’s outer atmosphere, or corona.
