@academic_exit Figuring out how to change the narrative from stating what I study, to stating what I can do. And for me personally, showing how independent I was during my PhD because places assumed I got a lot more help than I actually did.
Help! I need to find Bryan Kolaczkowski, the evolutionary biologist and master of Ancestral Protein reconstruction. He is a co-author of a paper we are about to submit, and we can't find him! He was at University of Florida, and now is...???? Please RT!
Follow your passion, but be honest with yourself. There are many ways to achieve ‘glory’. Be a great friend, be a great dad, be a great environmentalist, whatever, but don’t let this BS take you away from what you love. Follow your heart. TY to ALL of my mentors PhD to postdoc ❤️
Grad Students: It’s Sunday. Your “friends” are going to tempt you with gardening, hiking, slow-cooking, etc. Keep your eye on your goals though. Keep your eye on the glory. Imagine yourself winning that book award. Imagine yourself serving as a mentor. Make choices accordingly.
Those like @timgill924 are trying to prove something, yet can only be recognized by tweeting about how hard they work. If you’re talented, passionate, and have good ideas, there’s no need to work around the clock. (3/4)
While mid-postdoc at Harvard, with fellowships and huge support from all of my mentors, I left. I left to be close to my family and because I need more of a social setting with a team oriented environment. I had to learn that I have nothing to prove to the Tims of the world (2/4)
Preprints are great... in theory. They get science out fast and without paywalls. But what good is a free archive of all scientific knowledge without journals to tell you which papers are worth your time, and without impact factors to tell you who to hire?
Excited to share the results from a fantastic collaboration with the @Moazed_Lab! This exciting work helps to show how Polycomb and the rixosome work together to silence genes through degradation of nascent RNA. Congrats to all authors, especially to Haining! @AdelmanLab
Getting really excited about a steam mop on sale at target at 8AM on a Saturday…Is this bc I've finally finished school and got a real job? What is happening
Deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Mario Amzel, a brilliant Argentine crystallographer who spent most of his career at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. We will always remember him with respect, admiration and gratitude!
