Update, Aug 2025: Today’s Executive Order “Guaranteeing Fair Banking for All Americans” hits home for me.
Back in 2016, fresh from Crimea, I was de-banked just for where I was from.
Glad to see steps being taken so no one else goes through that. #FairBanking#CryptoFreedom
I still remember stepping into America, 2016, fresh from Crimea, hoping to treat myself for my birthday. I walk into a store, swipe my card, and boom—declined. I head to the bank, only to find that one bank froze my account, another outright blocked it. On my birthday. All my savings, gone in an instant, because of where I was from.
They said, ‘Crimea is like North Korea, like Iran.’ I had all the legal docs, a clean record. But none of it mattered; the system saw me as a risk. In that moment, all my trust in banks and ‘regulated systems’ vanished.
But looking back, maybe it was fate. That experience pushed me toward crypto, where there are no borders, no prejudice based on nationality. It opened my eyes to a world where tech, not bureaucracy, gives power back to the individual. Sure, some call it risky or volatile, but crypto’s driven by people trying to build something real. No more bureaucratic BS, no more restrictions that make no sense.
The 21st century is digital, global, borderless, and yet we’re shackled by outdated rules that don’t benefit anyone. If anything, they just remind us of the sheer stupidity of regulation for regulation’s sake.
This is why I believe the old system’s days are numbered. Paper money, pointless borders, unnecessary friction—they’re going to fade. One day, we’ll look back at banks as relics of a slower, more limited world. And to the moon we go. 🚀 🐶 @mert@elonmusk@DOGE
Nothing will shape your worldview as much as simply reading how humans from the past thought.
You realize very quickly that our time is a radical anomaly in human history.
Remember: it’s not enough to remove the negative. That simply creates a void. Get the positive things on the calendar ASAP, lest they get crowded out by the bullshit and noise that will otherwise fill your days.
"Software will proliferate just as videos, music, writing did.
The market structure will shift from a “fat middle” to mega-aggregators and a long tail.
It’ll be a slower process due to network effects, but many traditional vendor lock-ins will get eaten by AI."

New Superbad style raunchy buddy comedy about two young guys who need to get laid before they graduate but they're forced to join ICE to make money for dates and they patrol the airport where the meet whacky characters and potentially the (illegal) love of their lives.
We must unleash the yield, safely.
We’re at a momentous turning point for our industry. If Congress passes the CLARITY Act, we finally get the regulatory certainty we've been advocating for.
So what’s the hold up? Deciding if customers should earn yield from their stablecoin holdings.
To get this right, we must prioritize what matters most for Americans: value and safety.
We should build more crypto tools for refugees and stateless people.
Because there may unfortunately be many more refugees and stateless people…and from all social classes.
Ukrainians leaving the war.
Californians leaving the state.
Gulf workers leaving the missiles.
Doesn’t necessarily mean huge design changes. If you build convenient consumer tools for millions that work in peacetime, then they’ll often be robust enough to work in wartime.
Because crypto is wartime mode, but for the Internet. Public blockchains were created to resist datacenter attacks, hacks, and network blocks.
It’s simply enlightened self-interest to build scalable, reliable tools. For example: Signal works for poor people in poor countries in poor conditions, so it’ll likely work for you.
Stablecoins are actually getting to this level of ubiquity in crypto, and already making a real dent globally, including the new gold-backed varieties.
But we can do more.
If you've eaten so much that it's not healthy to eat more and you don't want to eat more, and you still eat more anyway "to finish the food", then you are just using your mouth as a garbage can.
