Newspaper archives are a treasure trove - here's the first mention in the Herald of some future All-Ireland winners, including footballer of the year Kieran McGeary. They competed in the Greencastle five-mile run all the way back on Boxing Day 2006.
A very rare appearance on the tarmac for me today, running 24:48 for 4th place in the famous Greencastle 5 mile road race up in County Tyrone; only man not in the carbon shoes either π€ͺ #salomonrunning

The introduction of a Covid-19 lockdown from Boxing Day has forced Oliver McCullagh to move the Greencastle 5 Miles to Sunday (20 Dec) with a midday start. The event will go ahead with a ceiling entry of 120 runners. @athleticsni@slevin007@chrispintstout@Eamonn_Christie

Under the current restricitions we are only allowed 15 in total at the event β that would include athletes and marshalls.
