A Fragmented Landscape Is No Excuse for Global Companies Serious About Responsible #AI.
A panel of experts weighs in on the lack of alignment around global standards and norms for responsible AI (RAI). [October 29, 2024 ]

There is sufficient alignment on standards for global companies to effectively implement RAI requirements across the organization.
Most of our panelists disagree. Despite some alignment on high-level responsible AI standards, the global landscape remains fragmented. Countries define AI tech differently; governing bodies have no agreed-upon language for standards. Enforcement is another issue.
“International standards are being established,” says Teemu Roos, professor at @helsinkiuni, “[but] how they will be enforced through binding regulation, and how such regulation can be harmonized globally, remains to be seen.”

Is the global landscape for #AI governance deeply fragmented? Yes.
Is this an excuse for companies serious about #ResponsibleAI? No.

Are organizations ready for the EU's #AI Act? See what @msurman@TechEthicist@yaso and our other experts had to say in the second article in our #ResponsibleAI series via @mitsmr. https://t.co/2LRZH6Lsy6
For my first public speaking engagement in over a year, I'll be at @Nasdaq on May 1st alongside @EdwardNorton at @EYnews's Board Strategy Summit to talk #ResponsibleAI, including lessons from my book Beyond Data (@mitpress). What do directors need to know? https://t.co/puOG9nMLbR
If people take only one thing from this announcement, I hope it is this:
“Existing legal authorities apply to the use of automated systems & innovative new technologies just as they apply to other practices.”
👀 @hackylawyER
First up, I'm so pleased to be back at the helm of @mitsmr's #ResponsibleAI work for another year. Sharing our first article of the season on #AI and organizational #RiskManagement. Let us know what you think! https://t.co/YAgEuI766t
Friends, if there's one thing I've learned from my recent health challenges, it's that our energy and attention are precious, limited resources. So, as I gradually return to work, I plan to use this platform very sparingly to share my work and follow yours.
2023 started off strong. I published my 1st book (https://t.co/eweQhpeh59), bought our 1st house. Then I was diagnosed with an extremely rare brain tumor, lost my vision, had 3 major surgeries, 30+ sessions of radiation & haven't been able to work since. Take nothing for granted.
I have been an AI practitioner for 40 years but now I find how technology fits in with the future of society, privacy, and human rights to be more interesting. My latest book purchase is Beyond Data: Reclaiming Human Rights at the Dawn of the Metaverse written by @hackylawyER https://t.co/RSSXfxrNUZ
i reviewed the wonderful book Beyond Data (@mitpress) by Elizabeth Renieris (@hackylawer) on new tech and human rights for @TheNewRambler https://t.co/vvTbdY3z3q
On #EYBetterInovation, I welcomed @EthicsInAI’s Elizabeth Renieris (@hackylawyER) for a conversation about her book, Beyond Data: Reclaiming Human Rights at the Dawn of the Metaverse, which calls for a new human rights-based approach to #data governance. https://t.co/nMxt1967XV
