This post from 5 years ago, and still there's blank refusal from pro ECT psychiatrists to look at these important questions. Who tf do they think they are? Because it's not their life left in shreds, they just don't care. Of course I'm blocked by most of them.
#AuditECT now.
@BiggMattWeaford @jill_d35 @WeAreDisabled @US_FDA @FDADeviceInfo @KPSCALnews @sharphealthcare Yeah. What few people know about #ECT is there's 7+ unique settings betwn 2 commonly used, unstandarized US #ECT devices. Talking ECT safety is like debating car safety without considering car, driver, weather & other environmental conditions. #AuditECT #MedTwitter #psychtwitter
@benzosarebad Patients injured by ECT are also being diagnosed with FND to cover up the harm they have suffered. It's time to reveal this disgusting practice of gaslighting and self protection by doctors who know exactly what has caused these conditions.
#AuditECT now.
@Limessa_67 @ReadReadj Please consider joining more than 15,000 people helping ECT recipients access rehabilitation afterwards by signing my #AuditECT petition https://t.co/JROPJUYuUy
Consistency in small, honest efforts matters.
As a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor managing my own long-term effects, I keep advocating for better systems and support.
@AOTAInc @APTA_official
Enforce the FDA 2018 Order and Build Post-ECT Rehabilitation Support. #AuditECT #PatientSafety
@ReadReadj It's become increasingly revealing that those promoting ECT become defensive and angry when injured patients and their family members share their experiences. One has to wonder why. #AuditECT

2/ If the words transparency and informed consent make you angry, it may be worth asking why.
Medicine is not supposed to fear honest questions.
It is not supposed to resist patient understanding.
It is not supposed to confuse authority with trust.
@aander1987 Patients injured by a medical procedure should not be abandoned. #MedicalEthics #PatientSafety #AuditECT
We had to work it out for ourselves too with no help whatsoever from those who caused the injury.
It's not acceptable.

Recovery is possible, but it’s much harder when you’re left to do it alone.
I’m doing my own daily rehabilitation after repetitive electrical brain injury. The systems that caused the harm offer no support.
Enforce the FDA 2018 Order. Build Post-ECT Rehab Pathways.
Families and survivors deserve better. #AuditECT
As a Certified Rehab Counselor injured by #ECT'S repetitive #electricalinjury induced brief comas, the absence of Rehab interventions tailored to injuries from this procedure (as reported by family members in this newly published study) was staggering. #AuditECT

The 8th paper from our international survey.
Giving relatives a voice.
Some of this is heart-breaking.

@bright_har6612 I'm grateful the movement to unify voices harmed by treatment compliance is growing. #TogetherWeRise!

Welcome to the #AuditECT patient safety movement. You have officially met the criteria:
Asking good questions about research which prioritized fitting hypotheses to supporting medical tradition over evidence-based data presented in the study.
Asking socratic questions triggers cognitive dissonance amongst the ardent believers following medical traditions of their predecessors.
Prior to 2026, predecessors could opine these theories behind closed doors and paywalls, enjoying the privilege that comes with a physician's expert status.
Consequently never experiencing necessary socratic-based questions to critically examine hypotheses built to support tradition-based medicine.
Sadly, rather than engaging in discussion, they block those who ask hard questions.
No matter, there are many critical thinkers in the universe willing to ask and answer the hard questions designed to refine and improve evidence-based medicine. #AuditECT
@Amanda_Jodeh Does psychiatry want us to believe that "extreme circumstances" warrenting ECT happen disproportionately in Minnesota? #AuditECT

Literal "Shocking Medical fact"? 👀
According to Medicaid FFS data (2018-2024), Minnesota (pop. 5.83 million) uses electroconvulsive therapy on ~11,000 unique patients — nearly 2X more than Arizona (7.6M pop), Colorado (6M), or Massachusetts (7.1M) combined.
One mid-sized state dominates national ECT Medicaid FFS billing & use.
Its use is not an evidence-based; it's a postal lottery!
#MedTwitter sleuths… it's a screaming red flag for overuse!
#MedicaidFraud #HealthcareFraud #ECT #MedicaidAbuse #CRUSH @SecKennedy

Jesus wept. Sure, a "special diet" is far more likely to cause cognitive impairment and memory loss than electric shocks to the brain.
Nice one genius...
#AuditECT now and make these reckless clowns account for themselves. It's long overdue.

In the US, it's quite plausible a large portion of ECT billing is technically fraudulent based on FR Doc. 2018-27809, 83 FR 66103, issued December 26, 2018 since the @US_FDA was "unable to locate" Thymatron's PMA & PDP. @DOGE_HHS #AuditECT @nickshirleyy

@APApsychiatric wants us to believe mental illness effects everyone equally & ECT's only used in most dire circumstances. Top 5 (of 300+) US ECT Medicaid providers captured 50.1% of all Medicaid FFS claims--demonstrating the absence of evidence-based use #AuditECT 2/🧵 @ReadReadj

@cheesyredrocket @rcpsych No, they've been too busy shocking middle aged and older women. What we need to know about @rcpsych is that they always take the easy option. Patient safety is not the priority.
#AuditECT
Unbelievable that they openly admit this is their first ever position statement.
Question for all: Are critiques of ECT scaremongering or contributions to informed consent? #AuditECT @MichelleFunk3 @Mad_In_America @ReadReadj https://t.co/0z2GGIsMac
@SecKennedy @HHSGov @nickshirleyy we need your investigative skills on Medicare's reimbursement of a medical procedure on an adulterated medical device. #AuditECT @DOGE_HHS @HHS_Jim

@SecKennedy, please #AuditECT, a treatment given on a grandfathered medical device the FDA ruled in 2018 "the device is deemed to be adulterated within the meaning of section 501(f)(1)(A) of the FD&C Act, and subject to seizure and condemnation under section 304 of the FD&C Act (21 U.S.C. 334)." https://t.co/oTMn1RZV7A
That has yet to be enforced.
Instead, an unknown entity successfully petitioned CMS to increase ECT Medicare reimbursements 72% in FY2025. https://t.co/Hxhtfk2rHH
If that doesn't increase risk of overuse on what should be an adulterated medical device, I don't know what will, especially considering
"Shock Therapy is the most profitable practice in psychiatry, and economics strongly influences when shock is given and who gets it. In Texas, the only state that keeps track, 65-year-olds get 360% more shock therapy than 64-year-olds. The difference: Medicare pays." -Denis Cauldon, USA TODAY
Please enforce 21 CFR Part 882 [Docket No. FDA-2014-N-1210] to eliminate this form of Medcare Fraud. @HHS_Jim @Nick
