New on #LiteracyPages: Is There One Scientific Way to Teach?
Spoiler: There isn’t. The research shows why effective teaching needs to be responsive, not formulaic.

Child ≠ novice. Children bring knowledge, strengths, and misconceptions. Teaching begins by building on what they already know. Full post coming soon on #LiteracyPages!

Enjoyed reading this blog again today:
“Any kind of teaching can be done ‘badly’. Explicit teaching can be dull and disengaging, just as inquiry-based teaching can be unfocused or pitched inappropriately”.

Excellent session with @C_Hendrick & how learning happens.
We have a lot of research & evidence of how learning happens, but limited applied evidence.
We therefore have a #scienceoflearning, but not a #scienceofteaching.
#SOL is just one piece!

From @C_Hendrick @researchEDCan @researchED1 we learned #HowLearningHappens! Now we need to put it into #practice! Is that the #ScienceOfTeaching? Excited to read my signed copy of your 2nd edition book with @P_A_Kirschner! Thank you! #rEDTO24

Instructional coaching plays a critical role in improving learning outcomes, but can be hard to implement at scale. Join us next Wednesday, January 17, to learn about the tradeoffs of different government-led instructional coaching models . Register here: https://t.co/xA866l4EF9
Reflecting on the work of some education greats and a "simple" formula for reading success in my latest blogpost: https://t.co/bVNh8gTink @LouisaMoats @VoyagerSopris @sstollar6 @jwashingtonPhD #anitaarcher #explicitinstruction #scienceofreading #scienceofteaching

ALL learners of each race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and cognitive ability benefit from direct, explicit, multimodal, structured, sequential reading, writing, math, science, history, and civics instruction. #ScienceofTeaching

@1in5advocacy Dyslexic children need very consistent instruction in Orton-Gillingham. Children who aren’t dyslexic don’t need that level of direct instruction. I took a year long training in Orton-Gillingham at the Schenck School in Atlanta.
The best way to address the stalled recovery is through high-dosage tutoring.
Done appropriately, with direct, explicit, multimodal, systematic instruction, high-dosage tutoring has the power to remediate COVID learning loss, and so much more. #ScienceofTeaching
The issue is that most of America’s public school educators did not, and still do not, receive appropriate and thorough training and credentialing in evidence-based instruction (i.e., #ScienceofReading) in government-run educator preparation programs (EdPrep) — that is why most public school districts cannot implement high-dosage tutoring at any scale. The best tutoring that most public schools offer is more bad instruction in higher doses, which will cause as much harm as lost learning, if not more. #SoldaStory #k12cartel
Districts could, and should, hire *independent* (i.e., NOT corporate vendors) individuals who are certified in evidence-based instructional approaches (e.g., Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Language), like @DrTeresaSanders, @AtlasLiteracy, @EmergentLitVA, @FaithBorkowsky, @BoksnerJudy, @TheLiteracyOG.
