Top Tweets for #Secondarybarriers
Today less than 1% of U.S. flights have cockpit #SecondaryBarriers despite mandate laws passed as late as 8 years ago.
Below are excerpts from the 9/11 Report published a year after my July 2003 Al Qaeda long-distance/cross-ocean flights attack plan disclosures. Most cockpit doors open away from the main cabin making it even easier to breach them after they're unlocked when pilots need to sleep, eat, or use the lavatory.
Thank you @GovAcctProj and @POGOwatchdog for supporting my efforts, going on 21 years and counting. A million thank-yous to @WhistleP2P and @FlyersRights for joining us later on!

✈️ During the tragic attacks on 9/11, hijackers simply waited for pilots to unlock their cockpits to acquire food, before forcing their way in to take over the plane.
Our whistleblower Robert MacLean @rjmaclean was instrumental in advocating for secondary cockpit barriers.

25 years since the September 11, 2001 attacks and less than 1% of U.S. commercial passenger aircrafts have #SecondaryBarriers. Pages 5, 158, and 245 of the 9/11 Commission Report show that the hijackers "jammed their way in" the cockpits when the pilots unlocked them in order to get food or use the bathroom. Israel has mandated #SecondaryBarriers long before 9/11.
Reinforced flight deck doors transformed aviation security after 9/11. But whenever the door opens in flight, a vulnerability remains. 🧵

At the rate U.S. airlines are asking @USDOT/@FAANews for multiple extensions, you won’t see cockpit #SecondaryBarriers on all aircrafts until 2034 or later...
“A United Airlines flight has been forced to make an emergency landing after an ‘unruly passenger’ allegedly tried to storm the cockpit.”

I'm exceptionally grateful for all of the public support I've gotten from @GovAcctProj, @POGOwatchdog, @PEERorg, @WhistleP2P, @EMPOWR_us, @ChuckGrassley, @SenRonJohnson, @RonWyden, @HSGAC_GOP, @GOPoversight, and @OversightDems — #SecondaryBarriers laws would not have passed without them!
#911Anniversary

✈️ Our TSA whistleblower Robert MacLean, represented by Legal Director Tom Devine, played a key role in advocating for secondary cockpit barriers on airplanes after the tragic attacks on 9/11, 24 years ago today.
A former TSA air marshal, MacLean blew the whistle in July 2003 on a TSA memo revealing terrorists’ plan to hijack planes by storming open cockpit doors. Despite the risks, TSA had cut air marshals from high-risk flights to “to save money on hotel costs because there was no more money in the budget.”

Refusing to consider *MODULAR* concepts, @AirlinesDotOrg requests additional time for the installation of foreign-made built-in cockpit #SecondaryBarriers in order to hold off an intruder for no longer than 5 seconds and avoid more 9/11-style breaches⸺see pages 5, 158, 236, and 245 of the 9/11 Report...

After reopening my 2006 complaint filing about the vulnerabilities when pilots need to dangerously unlock cockpit doors in order to sleep, eat, or use the lavatory—the U.S. Office of Special Counsel (@US_OSC) determined yesterday that my concerns were validated and has officially noticed the @POTUS
@JoeBiden @WhiteHouse.
Thank you @HSGAC, @HSGAC_GOP, @ChuckGrassley, @SenRonJohnson, @OversightDems, @GOPoversight, @GerryConnolly, and @SenDuckworth for your support!

Since I was hired by @TSA —carried over from @FAANews—no other @AskTSA administrator has enacted more dangerous policies than David Pekoske, who fired me a second time. He fought against cockpit #SecondaryBarriers — I have documented evidence.
One of the worst: allowing undocumented immigrants to fly in U.S. commercial flights:

BREAKING: The head of the Transportation Security Administration has been FIRED by the Trump administration, multiple sources tell me and @priscialva. In a memo to TSA employees, David Pekoske says he was told "my time as your administrator will end as of noon today."

Actually @GovAcctProj, commercial passenger aircrafts will still not have cockpit #SecondaryBarriers until 2028 or later.
In the meantime, this is the standard operating procedure despite the 9/11 Report confirming that the hijackers simply waited for the pilots to unlock the cockpits for food or use the lavatory:
We remember the tragedy of 9/11 and turn to policies that could potentially prevent another tragedy.
Due to the commitment of our client, former Air Marshal @rjmaclean, planes now have a secondary barrier to the cockpit to protect pilots.

Much credit deserved, for passage of the #SecondaryBarriers for *ALL EXISTING AIRCRAFTS* law, must go to @SenBobCasey @RepBrianFitz @RepJoshG @ALPAPilots @afa_cwa @FlyersRights @RepPeterDeFazio @FlyingWithSara.
Those who bitterly fought against this law: @DHSgov/@TSA top-boss @TSA_Pekoske and his Federal Air Marshal Service senior leadership.

FACT: @SenateCommerce chair @SenTedCruz has a former @DHSgov/@TSA Federal Air Marshal on his flight security detail.
@tedcruz recently demanded more air marshals to fly on a tiny fraction of jets that have no #SecondaryBarriers which Israel has had for decades:https://t.co/tcasHzVsTn
Se. Cruz needs to tell us his position on the House-passed *ALL JETS* provision that would 100% eliminate 9/11-style unlocked—pilots crew-rest, food, lavatory useagee—cockpit breaches.
End this buffoonery that flight attendants are forced to do—just read pages 158 and 245 of the 9/11 Commission report:
Thank you again @FAANews for finalizing the #SecondaryBarriers rule after years of needless delay. Now we must move forward to enact the Saracini Aviation Safety Act to retrofit existing aircraft with similar security measures.

This past June, we commended the @FAANews for finalizing the rule requiring the installation of #SecondaryBarriers on all newly-manufactured aircraft. Learn more about the rule and what’s next for secondary barriers: https://t.co/An0Wo7slUT

We’re only as secure as our weakest link. We need secondary barriers on all aircraft to close this gap in airline security. Call on Congress to close this gap. #AviationSecurity #SecondaryBarriers
In order to safeguard our aircraft against hijacking attempts, a secondary barrier is necessary. Join us in calling on #Congress to support the installation of secondary barriers on all passenger airplanes, not only newly manufactured aircraft: https://t.co/U2szCq9HK6
We must do more to keep #aviation safe & secure. @SenBobCasey introduced a bill to do just that by requiring all passenger planes––not just new ones––to have #SecondaryBarriers between the cabin & flight deck. We're grateful to Sen. Casey for honoring Capt. Saracini’s memory.
We are committed to increasing security in the air transportation system to prevent another attack like the horrific events of September 11, 2001, but one key gap still exists in safeguarding the flight deck. Earlier this year, @SenBobCasey (D-PA) introduced the Saracini Enhanced Aviation Safety Act (S.911) to address this gap: his legislation mandates installation of a such a barrier between cabin and cockpit on all passenger planes in the United States, not only new ones.
Named after Captain Victor Saracini who piloted United 175 when it was hijacked by terrorists on 9/11, the Saracini Enhanced Aviation Safety Act will keep pilots, passengers, and American aviation safe from future attacks.
“For more than 20 years, airline pilots have been committed in ensuring that the legacy of all who lost their lives or were harmed on September 11, 2001, is that of a safer and more secure U.S. air transportation system. ALPA has long supported the use of secondary barriers and are grateful to Senator Casey for honoring Capt. Saracini’s memory,” said our President Capt. Jason Ambrosi, in the Senator’s press release about the legislation. “Installing secondary barriers on all passenger aircraft is a long overdue, cost-effective way to preserve the integrity of the flightdeck and keep crews and passengers safe.”

House passes bill that would 100% stop 9/11-style *UNLOCKED* cockpit attacks—see pages 158 and 245 of the 9/11 report.
Installing cockpit #SecondaryBarriers on *ALL EXISTING* jets would be fast, easy, and inexpensive if you installed @ModularBarrier types.

Thank you to @RepBrianFitz for his tireless commitment to keeping our skies safe. We are grateful for his efforts to ensure the swift instillation of #SecondaryBarriers on all passenger aircraft. These cost-effective devices are long overdue and will help preserve the integrity of the flightdeck and keep crews and passengers safe.
My amendment will mandate that ALL commercial aircraft are equipped with secondary barriers to prevent hostile individuals from accessing the cockpit. I’m grateful for the bipartisan support from @RepSamGraves and @RepRickLarsen on this critical national security issue.
Earlier this month, the @FAANews issued the long-overdue final rule for the implementation of #SecondaryBarriers, mandating the installation of them on all newly manufactured aircraft within two years. Read more, from @HSTodayMag: https://t.co/NoZnh9NXFW
Good riddance.
@FAA_Billy was always creating absurd stumbling-blocks for cockpit #SecondaryBarriers deployment when the Aviation & Transportation Security Act of 2001 Section 104 clearly mandates them, but then again, so have all of his other @USDOT/@FAANews predecessors...

Billy Nolen, FAA's acting leader, will depart. FAA hasn’t had a Senate-confirmed leader for about a year. The agency has around 45K employees, oversees ops in US airspace and a range of aviation policy matters.

@RepMattGaetz Pass the #SecondaryBarriers all-jets #hr911 bill and get rid of the @RTCAInc-proven useless $800 million/year @DHSgov/@TSA Federal Air Marshal Service that tries to impress Congress with a new warrantless passenger surveillance program every few years:
https://t.co/urvvgCppWz
Remember that 2018 @DHSgov/@TSA Federal Air Marshal Service (FAMS) multi-million-dollar passengers surveillance program secretly called “Quiet Skies”? The same one that routinely assigned air marshals to follow innocent people around in jets? Well, metal spoon-shank man had a bona fide criminal history of robbing a convenience store—threatening a firearm—and he beat his mother. And shush: it’s @AskTSA @TSA_Pekoske’s big secret whether or not air marshals were on spoon-man’s flight…
Humble-brag-fail: I blew the whistle on “Quiet Skies” in April 2018, but in 2020 ex-FAMS headquarters attorney now @USMSPB judge Melissa Mehring ruled was a nuth’n-burger. Months later, @DHSOIG published the unclassified version of its “Quiet Skies” report citing that it distracted air marshals from protecting cockpits.
And it gets even muckier: Mehring was also in FAMS headquarters (425 I St. NW DC) when I exposed her bosses’ 2004 passengers surveillance $22 million “paper-weight” “DATA MAXX” gizmos that were scrapped within a year:
https://t.co/TyeA7D94eB
And no joke: Mehring ruled that it was not retaliatory when my 24-year military and law enforcement “exemplary” resume was rejected for working in the @AskTSA FAMS headquarters “Information Coordination Section” while it was in the early stages of concocting the “Quiet Skies” program.
