ST FOR MEITEI
1. The Meitheis by T.C. Hodson, British Assistant Political Agent wrote that the Meitheis is a #tribe - page -5-10. Published by D. Nutt Collection in 1908.
2. Linguistic Survey of India, a survey carried out in between 1894-1928 by George Abraham Grierson claimed that Naga and Meiteis are within the same linguistic family and hence constitute the same and single ethnic entity. Published by Motilal Banarasidas in 1927
3. Account of the valley of Munnipore (Manipur) and of the Hill Tribe (With a comparative Vocabulary of the Munnipore, wherein W. Mc Culloh writes that the Manipuris (Meiteis) are a #tribe. Published by Bengal Printing Company in 1859

The Meitei community satisfies the Lokur Committee's criteria for designation as a ST by possessing a unique culture that includes a distinct language or dialect,as well as a core cultural foundation encompassing life-cycle rituals,marriage traditions,music,dance,art,and folklore
