Mary Brunkow, Fred Ramsdell and Shimon Sakaguchi have been awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their groundbreaking discoveries concerning peripheral immune tolerance that prevents the immune system from harming the body.
The Nobel Prize laureates identified the immune system’s security guards, regulatory T cells, thus laying the foundation for a new field of research. The discoveries have also led to the development of potential medical treatments that are now being evaluated in clinical trials.
The hope is to be able to treat or cure autoimmune diseases, provide more effective cancer treatments and prevent serious complications after stem cell transplants.

The goal of a PhD is not to learn some facts or read a few papers or learn a bunch of techniques. The goal of a PhD is to learn independence, problem solving, how to finish things you start, resilience, & gain the ability to adapt & think creatively. Learning these things is hard
Many scientists are proud of their craft and the highly specialized skills they hone at the bench
But nobody hates Western Blots more than the people who have to do them
Some early-career researchers report feeling pressure to use animal models to meet journal and grant requirements, even in disciplines and projects that don’t require them.

Exempting SC/ST students from tuition fees overlooks economic disparities within these groups. Financial aid should be need-based to support truly disadvantaged students.
Reviewed a paper in a journal of "high repute". all work was performed in overexpression in one cell line HEK293T. It should be a desk rejection. I am surprised to see it has gone in revision as other reviewers thinks it's novel. "Friends in need is a friend indeed"
Being at a top-notch institution may certainly help in terms of infrastructure but remember that you are primarily choosing a lab for the next few years of your career and a mentor for lifetime while entering a PhD program🙏! So, you should do your homework accordingly😎! 2/n
