Today, our proposed amicus curiae filing was formally received by the Clerk of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia in Greenspan v. Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys et al. We ask the Court for permission to present an additional perspective on Nigerian President Bola Tinubu’s (@officialABAT) asserted privacy interests and the Nigerian Presidency’s extraordinary decision to issue an official Statehouse Statement publicly discussing the very FBI and DEA records President #Tinubu is asking a U.S. federal court to protect.

Our position is simple: you cannot have it both ways. You cannot invoke privacy before a United States federal court while using the power of the Nigerian Presidency to publicly characterize those same investigative records and tell the world what they supposedly contain. We are asking the Court to consider the Presidency’s own public actions when weighing President #Tinubu’s asserted privacy interests against the public’s legitimate interest in understanding what the @FBI, @DEAHQ, and @TheJusticeDept did in connection with these drug-trafficking investigative records.

We fully expect President Bola #Tinubu and the other parties to challenge this filing for one reason or another. That is entirely expected. Our primary objective is to ensure that the Court is made aware of the Nigerian Presidency’s public statement and our argument that it potentially weakens President Tinubu’s asserted claim of privacy. If the Court permits our amicus brief to be formally docketed and considered, we will welcome that decision. Regardless of the outcome of our motion, we have placed this significant development before the Court so that it can be considered, if the Court deems appropriate, when ruling on the issues before it.

I have consistently continued to respectfully appeal to those in office today to prioritise reconstruction and maintenance of existing roads and other infrastructure over commencing new ones.

I left someone in Onitsha on Saturday night to take the first bus to Lagos on Sunday morning. Until I left Lagos at 8 pm yesterday, he had not arrived in Lagos. He only arrived in Lagos at about 2 pm today. A journey that usually takes a maximum of 8 hours now takes nearly two days.

This is not just about bad roads. It is about lost man-hours, stranded passengers sleeping on highways, wasted fuel, damaged vehicles, delayed goods, and businesses losing millions of naira.

Nigerians do not need new projects just for the headlines. We need functional roads that make life and economic activity possible.

A government must understand that infrastructure is not necessarily about the size of the project; it is about the number of lives and livelihoods it improves.

As we noted yesterday, @TheJusticeDept (DOJ) is no longer stonewalling or blocking the release of the alleged Nigerian President Bola Tinubu (@officialABAT) drug-trafficking documents. This is a reversal from the DOJ under President @JoeBiden.

August 21 Deadline: The DOJ under President @realDonaldTrump will inform Judge Howell of its position concerning the release of records related to alleged heroin trafficking involving Nigerian President Bola Tinubu.

August 21 Deadline: Nigerian President #Tinubu deadline to tell the court why DOJ should not release all records concerning the drug-trafficking allegations against him.

September 18 Deadline: Unless Judge Howell asks for additional information or arguments, the court will deem all arguments heard, and Judge Howell will make a ruling.

Fact: There is no more room for #Nigerian President #Tinubu to hide. We will continue to engage the @WhiteHouse and Congress on this issue. We will be sharing all court documents, DOJ documents, and #Tinubu's objection with the public. Nigerians will see the man they call President #Tinubu pleading for his alleged drug-trafficking records to remain private. Nigerians should ask themselves: Would an innocent man do this?

Osun: When the People Stand, Democracy Wins

I warmly congratulate Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election and the good people of Osun State on this important democratic victory. They - Osun people - have spoken with courage and clarity, reaffirming that the power to choose their leaders belongs to the people. Through his commitment to the people, compassion for their needs, and the strength of his work and achievements in office, Governor @AAdeleke_01 has earned their renewed confidence and been entrusted once again with their mandate.

I particularly commend the courageous youths of Osun who rose to the occasion and peacefully defended their democratic mandate. Their vigilance and determination demonstrate that when citizens stand firmly to protect their votes, the forces of good can overcome the forces of darkness.

The lesson from Osun is clear: democracy is strongest when citizens are alert, conscious of their civic responsibility, and determined to ensure that their votes count. Every genuine vote must be respected, and every lawful mandate must be protected.

This is also a clarion call as we approach 2027. Nigerians must remain informed, participate actively, vote, and protect their votes. The Nigerian people are the ones experiencing hunger, deprivation, insecurity, and hardship; therefore, they are also the ones with the power, through their votes, to bring about the change that will end these conditions.

I urge all political actors to place the interests of the people above partisan considerations and to embrace peace, unity, and the rule of law. Elections should never be battles of violence, but contests of ideas, competence, character, and service.

May the Osun experience strengthen our confidence in the democratic process and inspire Nigerians everywhere to remain vigilant and committed to building a just, secure, prosperous, and truly people-centred nation.
