@EricaMattison@jkwessel A particularly magical variation on this type of structure is the style w/ prisms embedded in the pavement, to permit daylight into the space below & (sometimes) to direct the light sideways into interior areas of the adjoining building’s basement!

Congratulations, Director @KaraBrewton.
An excellent appointment by @TownofBrookline that stands to advance the work of both @BrooklineMA (Planning) & collaborating departments.
@CarterLavin @RebeccaForBART @prinzrob@JohnBauters@dwpa@SFBART On bike-share regionalism & shapes it can take, note: BlueBikes/Hubway first encompassed (parts of) Boston, then quickly Brookline, Cambridge, & Somerville, then better coverage in existing munis, then Everett & Chelsea, all contiguous, & most recently Salem, a ferry ride away.
@CarterLavin @RebeccaForBART @prinzrob@JohnBauters@dwpa@SFBART In the Boston-area BlueBikes (nee Hubway) system, capital costs (buying bikes & docks) are borne by participating munis & operating costs jointly by a marquee sponsor, Blue Cross Blue Shield currently, & the munis, w/ those ops contracted to Motivate (nee Alta, now Lyft).
@According2Scott@jessemermell If you find yourself in need of another ice cream + classic transit stop, Double Rainbow, right near the F turn-around at Market + 17th + Castro, is also pretty great. 😋
@bryang935 @mateosfo@CityofBerkeley@CaltransD4@WalkBikeBerk@SBerkeleyNow@NBerkeleyNow Some wonderful street-oriented mixed use precedent along College & Claremont (from the street railway era), plus underpinnings for a similar pattern, albeit more single-story commercial-only use currently, along Solano & Hopkins (from a bit later in the early 20th century), too.
If @CityofBerkeley is to add more homes knitted into the business districts along its major streets—which it should—it & @CaltransD4 will need to also get more serious about supporting walking, cycling, & mass-transit on those streets.

Where will this new housing go? This slide offers a preview: More housing along major corridors and downtown, plus some additional units within what are now single-family zoned neighborhoods
@bgerhardstein@CityofBerkeley@CaltransD4@WalkBikeBerk@SBerkeleyNow@NBerkeleyNow@AlamedaCTC San Pablo has so much going for it. Neighbors, & the region, deserve a version of the street which matches its many beautiful buildings & trees that reflect a legacy of past generations’ street-oriented, people-centered, space-efficient development & transportation patterns.
Can’t help but reflect on past experiences in these special places—such as the view of sunrise across Lower Echo Lake framed by Flagpole Peak—but, now, with a newly added sense of dread. Hope folks there can evacuate safely.
A dramatic view of smoke that appeared poised to grasp Pyramid Peak as the Caldor Fire approached Echo Summit, captured shortly before sunset yesterday via the @AlertWildfire camera northeast across South Lake Tahoe.
Last night’s forecast of growing wind from the southwest pointed to difficult conditions at (& soon east of) the Sierra crest, apparently now playing out per a @CalTopoMaps plot of today’s fire + current wind activity.
@drewdaraabrams@zbowling As itself further amended, yes (as I understand things).
Another source for the base text of the substitute amendment, compiled before it was given its official number & formatted in a manner somewhat easier to read: https://t.co/pVNXD17a3a
The Senate will soon consider bipartisan infrastructure legislation that makes 𝙝𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙘 investments in everything from our roads to our water systems.
Bill Text: https://t.co/cDLhiVtrMm
@drewdaraabrams The text that @ZBowling referenced is that (from the House) which was first “read” in the Senate, on July 12-13, *before* amending the bill—starting, on Aug. 1, with a wholesale “amendment in the nature of a substitute” of substantially different text (from Senate committees).
@drewdaraabrams Believe you’re mistaken about what the Senate passed on Aug. 10. In my understanding, they did not include any of the House “member designated projects.”
@kk_levine U-lock in kid’s backpack with key on a long string tied into the same, plus advance practice locking / unlocking at home, enabled our kindergartner to manage securing her own bike to the racks inside the parents-prohibited zone at her school this past spring.
