OFFICE OF THE
EASTERN KUKI CHIEFS’ ASSOCIATION
KAMJONG DISTRICT, MANIPUR – 795145
Head Office: Chassad
Motto: Peace and Prosperity
Ref. No. 06/2026/EKCA/PR-05 Date: 19/06/2026
PRESS STATEMENT
The Eastern Kuki Chiefs’ Association condemns the actions taken by the 11 Assam Rifles on 19 June 2026 near Molvailup at around 4:30 AM against our volunteers, who have been actively patrolling and safeguarding Kuki villages in Kamjong District.
Instead of taking decisive action against the actual aggressors, security forces have chosen to target volunteers who are stepping in to protect vulnerable Kuki civilians. This displacement of focus is both deeply misguided and highly ungrateful. We formed the volunteers with a singular mission: to protect our people, who have been left entirely undefended by the security forces.
We formally confront the security forces with the following critical questions regarding their inaction and apparent double standards:
Humanitarian Neglect:
What measures have security forces taken regarding the burning of Lanchah village and the forced starvation of Kuki civilians in Kamjong District? The Nagas have imposed a severe economic embargo on the Kuki community, prohibiting them from purchasing essentials, including life-saving medicine, and completely cutting off their supply lines. Yet, there has been total silence and inaction from the security forces and state government.
Failure to Contain Violence:
What is being done about the recent burning of Kultuh village and the brutal killing of two civilians by Tangkhul militants and Myanmar-based militants (SNA)?
National Security Compromise:
Why are foreign militants being allowed to freely cross the border, ally with Tangkhul militants, and launch attacks on innocent Indian citizens inside Indian territory? Security forces cannot claim ignorance. They are fully aware that these foreign militants have been openly occupying Indian territory, specifically residing in Chahong Khunou, Chatric Khunou, and Chatric Khullen for the past two years. Why has absolutely no action been taken to neutralize this cross-border threat?
Our Demand:
We urgently call upon the concerned authorities to launch a thorough investigation into this partial treatment, the unchecked cross-border militant operations, and the ongoing humanitarian crisis affecting the Kuki population.

Munlui Village on June 15, 2026 at approx 6am by NSCN-IM and ZUF-Kamson, leaving three civilians critically injured and demand iimmediate action, a thorough investigation, and accountability against those responsible. The safety of civilians must be ensured, and justice must prevail.
Hospitals must remain places of healing, not conflict. The continuing unrest at #RIMS, #Imphal is affecting patients, healthcare workers, and essential medical services. All sides must exercise restraint, prioritize public safety, and work towards restoring normalcy peacefully.
Was Mr. Lenminsang of Kolchung Village deliberately killed while present at Songkong Village, Henglep Subdivision, Manipur? This serious question deserves a thorough, impartial, and transparent investigation. Authorities must establish the facts, determine responsibility, and ensure accountability based on evidence, not speculation, in the interest of justice and public trust.

* Investigations by the Central Bureau of Investigation concluded the encounter was staged, though prosecutions became legally complex.
2. Machil Fake Encounter Case (Jammu & Kashmir, 2010)
* Three civilians were killed and falsely portrayed as infiltrating militants.
* A military court later convicted several Army personnel, making it one of the rare cases resulting in convictions.

* The incident led to the long hunger strike of Irom Sharmila against AFSPA.
4. Mon Killings (Nagaland, 2021)
* Security forces mistakenly opened fire on civilians in Mon district, killing several people.
* Official inquiries acknowledged failures in intelligence and operational execution.

* The allegations remain a subject of historical and legal debate.
6. Extra-Judicial Execution Victim Families Association (EEVFAM) Cases (Manipur)

📝..✍️......
~State-sponsored COBRA appears to have unleashed its first venom upon the Kuki people soon after its deployment in Manipur. Henglep area is by no means a disturbed areas that warrants such an operation by central forces.
Is this what the so-called COBRA has been sent to Manipur to carry out fake encounters against the Kuki community while conveniently ignoring areas plagued by insurgent and secessionist activities? Is this not an act of cowardice? Why display your sharp teeth against the wrong people and portray yourselves as brave experts in jungle warfare and guerrilla tactics?
Why not deploy to Ukhrul, Kamjong, Tamenglong, and to the disturbed areas of the Imphal Valley, which have long been infested with various militant and secessionist groups? Why target those who are comparatively harmless for the CF? Is this an attempt to project strength and bravery by victimizing the vulnerable.
No force entrusted with upholding the law should ever abuse its authority or turn its weapons against the harmless individual. Selective displays of force against vulnerable communities do not reflect courage; they expose moral bankruptcy and cowardice. True bravery lies in confronting genuine threats, not in intimidating those who are least able to defend themselves.
The Kuki people deserve justice, accountability, and equal protection under the law-not fear, intimidation, or the specter of extrajudicial violence.

Manipur: Destroying livelihoods in the name of security only deepens divisions. Why were there no combing operations in Konsakhul after the shooting, yet punitive raids in Leillon Vaiphei? The public deserves answers and accountability.
Mr Lenminsang
Allegedly killed in Songkong, Henglep by COBRA Team. Reports say he was stripped, forced into a uniform, then killed. Is this how Central Forces treat Kuki civilians?
The Kuki community seeks peace, not persecution.
