So excited to finally share that the Cocoon team has been acquired by Substack! Almost two years ago I joined Cocoon with the goal of helping to create a new space to share with your loved ones, untainted by ads and the algorithms that accompany them. 1/x
We are thrilled to announce that the world class team from @Cocoon_HQ has joined Substack!
Cocoon will be joining our team to contribute their skills, creativity, and vision to strengthening Substack’s network of writers and readers.

The comment section of your Substack is all yours, to govern as you choose. Today we’re making that easier, with Reply Rules.
When you set your Reply Rules, they appear to anybody replying to you, anywhere on Substack.
And you don’t have to shoulder the moderation burden alone. There’s now a system that learns from what you do, and preemptively hides replies it thinks you’d hide yourself.
(You can always see these and un-hide them, which the system will also learn from.)
If you have 2+ years of experience as an engineer working on consumer products on one of the above platforms (and are excited about branching out into the others!), are based in SF, and this sounds like you, apply here: https://t.co/jBJaKSQnt4
My team at Substack is looking for a product-focused software engineer who's down to work across platforms (iOS, Android, web), ideate/contribute to product direction, and take ownership over major new community features that will ship to our millions of app users. (1/2)
You know about LLMs, but Large World Models (LWMs) & spatial intelligence will be key to solving BIG challenges in climate change and human health. Here’s why 🧵👇
I am excited to share our work in which we conducted a CRISPRi-based screen to assess 102 Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) risk genes in microglial uptake of synaptic material! (1/7)

@rorhug If it were me I’d feel the opposite: likely still an independent organization with a startup environment and many of same leaders/teammates (hinges on this assumption) yet you have full liquidity
@chuga Awesome work Andres! The app is beautiful. Unfortunately I can’t use Copilot until Fidelity support is back online but I’m excited to give it a try then. Just deleted Mint and am ready to pay you 😄
The internet revolutionized reading, but instead of a utopia, it has delivered a mess.
At Substack, we haven’t given up hope. We’ve been working hard to build a new home for readers online.

I now know what it feels like to be an Android user. I am basically an Apple fanboy and it is insane how far ahead Garmin’s smart watch line is over the Apple Watch (incl Ultra). I charge my Fenix once every two weeks and could write a page of superior features
Garmin is a very resilient company.
Over the past 15 years, two Big Tech players took direct hits on its main revenue streams.
◽️GPS: When Google released Maps for Android in 2008, Garmin's car GPS devices made $2B a year (~70% of total sales). It's now only $1B year.
◽️Smartwatches: From 2008 to 2014, Garmin’s smart fitness watches (GPS, heart tracking, waterproof) grew from $0 to $1B. Then, Apple released the Apple Watch.
In response to the Apple threat, Garmin started selling high-end models and has carved out a niche in the premium fitness smartwatch market ($2-$3,000 price points vs. $799 for Apple Watch Ultra).
Today, smart fitness watches make up 60% of Garmin's ~$5B sales (GPS — evenly divided between car, aviation and marine segments — is 40% of revenue vs. 100% in 2008).
After surviving these haymakers, Garmin is up ~3x from 2008 and worth $20B.
Pumped for Shaad and any founder that gets the chance to work with him. Can’t think of many other people with the passion and generosity that he pours into the people that he works with

@gspence1@substack Hi Greg, so sorry about this. It appears that this is an issue that's specific to iOS 14. I have a fix going out ASAP but another option would be to update your iOS. Sorry again for the inconvenience
