Sizing up to be a great event, still not to late to book on if farmers in North Wales are interested in establishing and managing woodland for productivity.
We're excited to share this unique roundel project we've been working on with @WoodlandTrust ๐ At our 3 farms we pledge that all beneficiaries will leave with an enhanced sense of environmental citizenship ๐ฑ This is an example of how we're making that happen @Nethercott_FFCC ๐
Learning from the past: How does the local response to historical afforestation projects affect how tree planting is seen today? John Deakin - Head of trees and woodlands from the #thenationaltrust in our latest film looking at "What is holding back woodland creation in the UK?"
@GreenAcres_Farm@mikewporter Yes advice for willow/poplar SRC is to cut back after first growing season. Hazel not so vigorous though. Your Trees look healthy and well established though so should bounce back well. Update Twitter which ever way you go - I know a few farmers a couple of years behind.
@mikewporter@GreenAcres_Farm I agree remove guards, cut and lay stand now for better regen. Though it will definitely be good to leave a few standing to compare rate of regrowth. My guess is that the 5 to 7 stems that regrow will out yield existing two within 3 to 4 years.
Great day spent planting trial #silvoarable strips at sapperton wilder today. A diverse species mix including Walnuts, almonds, hazel nuts, Perry pears, sea buckthorn. Trees provided by Gloucester council and planted by @SVPcharity. More planting days with even more species soon
A very interesting webinar, can we utilise plant available (&Free) nitrogen from trees?! Dive into the research done by @PerennialGMs field lab would be very interesting. Looking forward to the Nitrogen session at #oxfordrealfarmingconference next month featuring @Ben_Raskin
