@thinkingwest i've always loved this theory (as a Brit). it kinda works for the USA too. Most of the Chinese dynasties fit the pattern quite well. Including the current Communist Empire too. It can be contrasted with the Kondratieff Cycles that allows for renewal.
@StefanZL98 i need to check this but i think the reluctance to take up the new technology of printing by Islamic rulers (vs the free for all that happened in Western Europe) meant that the Islamic world fell behind in the next phase of knowledge sharing that accelerated things in general.
