High in the cold, remote desert of Hanle, the Indian Astronomical Observatory quietly runs entirely on solar power.
This silent effort meaningfully contributes to the mission of #CarbonNeutralLadakh.
We are thrilled at the announcement for National Large Solar Telescope #NLST, National Large Optical-NIR Telescope #NLOT, Upgraded HCT #uHCT & #COSMOS2 at Amaravati in the budget speech of Hon'ble FM Smt Nirmala Sitharaman .... 1/2

Message From Ladakh on this International Snow Leopard Day !
As a Ladakhi, I want to highlight that Ladakh alone is home to more than 50% of India’s snow leopard population. However, certain ground realities are posing silent threats to their survival.
In recent years, many villagers in Ladakh have stopped rearing traditional livestock like sheep and goats , which earlier formed a major part of snow leopards’ fallback prey, especially for aging individuals who struggle to hunt wild ibex or bharal. When these domestic animals are absent, snow leopards are often seen as mere threats rather than as an endangered species with ecological and tourism value. Very few communities recognize the potential of sustainable snow leopard tourism.
I humbly urge concerned authorities to implement the following measures on ground:
1.Awareness campaigns for local communities on the ecological importance and conservation value of snow leopards.
2.Encouragement and support for villagers to revive traditional livestock rearing (sheep/goats), with protection measures.
3.Creation of livelihood channels for villagers through community-led snow leopard spotting/tourism initiatives.
4.Student exposure programs ,as most Ladakhi students have never seen a snow leopard in real life ,to foster pride, knowledge, and ownership.
Ladakh can become a global model for coexistence and conservation , but action must begin at the grassroots.
It’s just a feedback & suggestion as a lover of Wild Animal from Ladakh .
