Wonderful time this week at the @ToposBio and @modal JPM event on "small molecules and big computers!"
With their new foundational model Topos-1, the team has been able to characterize disordered proteins in a way that hasn't been achievable before.
Instead of just returning one static protein structure, Topos-1 is able to generate tens of thousands of protein conformations in minutes, at full atomic resolution. Thanks Modal for the computational muscle.
Terrific to see the pharma partner response to the team's data around intrinsically disordered targets for Parkinson's disease and prostate center. Excited for what's to come!
Announcing Topos-1, an all-atom generative model that sets a new benchmark for predicting structural ensembles of intrinsically disordered proteins. Topos-1 outperforms existing models by a large margin, with implications for designing drugs for challenging targets ranging from cancer to neurodegenerative disease.

This was 10 years ago today...the first office of Nervana (founded Feb 25, 2014). Nervana was the first AI chip startup and signaled a sea-change in compute to AI. It represents when compute "went neural".
10 yrs seems long, but the amount of change has been astounding!
BREAKING NEWS
The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the 2023 #NobelPeacePrize to Narges Mohammadi for her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and her fight to promote human rights and freedom for all.

One of Sidney Coleman's most iconic quotes. Casually lighting up in lecture. Chugging coffee. The cheeky grin and laughing at his own jokes. This lecture had it all! (Will transcribe what he says below)

I am trying an experiment.
Every day in December, I will post 1 result from the past 40 years (ie 1983-present) that fundamentally changed my corner of (fundamental) physics
Here are my rules
- Nothing already earning a Nobel prize
- Not a ranking, just my preferences
