Sunrise from the highest skyscraper in Europe: the Lakhta Center in St. Petersburg.
The spire is above the cloud cover and gets a bit more sun...๐

The four elements from 1898 by Hans Christiansen (1866-1945), a German painter and illustrator and a main contributer to the Jugendstil/Art Nouveau movement.
@Insidiator69@keithgessen Everyone misinterprets Gorbachev's claim.
What Gorbachev said was that he couldn't get NATO to promise not to move to "Poland" because Poland was still in the Warsaw Treaty block back then.
So, "not one inch to the East" meant Eastern Germany for Gorbachev back then.
@aaron_schwa@ianmiles Easy.
They violently suppressed protests against the new self-appointed government by using the far-right paramilitaries. In Odessa the far-right burnt 42 people alive. No one was held accountable to this day.
@russianforces Scenario: a country with a bunker is losing a conventional war. Assign probability to what happens next:
a) the country surrenders, the enemy takes over the bunker
b) security disperses as government structures crumble, rogue elements take over
b) the bunker gets unsealed
@russianforces Not bad. But countries that own nuclear weapons subscribing to this definition will look silly. :-(
Even sillier would be them declaring threats are unacceptable.
@aaron_schwa Easy.
They (BoJo&JoBi) convinced the wavering Z to keep fighting.
They also told him they will not be part of any security guarantees under this agreement, but will generiously support him with ๐ฐ &๐ซ.
PS It was apparently Macron, who convinced PU to pull back from Kiev.
@LukeBMM With that in mind:
1. RU mil. spend is ~$600B PPP in 2027
2. Which is ballpark similar to that of the EU...
3. But much lower than that of NATO combined
4. EU aid to UKR is a drop in the bucket
5. Moving UKR manuf. to the EU undermines their own PPG GDP advantage
@LukeBMM These are good and important points, but they distract from the big picture. Which is:
1. Never use nominal $ GDP to compare countries
2. Always use PPP GDP if you want to compare countries
3. Remember that PPP GDP is not a precise science
So much history in a single map. Even the "no data" part tells a story of westward expansion. A cool
dataviz worth studying for a bit. Also, it must be hard finding foreign born folks in Alabama.
