Crypto's place in finance is no longer up for debate, and the momentum isn't slowing. That was one of the clearest takeaways from our panel, "The New Financial Establishment: Who Owns the Rails When TradFi and Crypto Merge," at CONNECT in Seoul last week π°π·
The question isn't whether crypto gets adopted. It's how fast. Adoption is already happening at scale, even without full regulatory clarity. And as traditional finance moves in, it's pushing the space to fix long-standing gaps, from clunky user experience to the infrastructure institutions need.
Thanks @Cointelegraph for hosting our discussion, to my amazing co-panelists and to old and new friends of @plcapital
Working in crypto requires knowledge in math, finance, sociology, economy, game theory, regulation, and as of recently LLMs and quantum physics.
Then, you need to follow up news, Twitter, telegram, and a couple more channels 24/7. Quite simple.
Bullish.
I'm moderating the panel "Bringing Stablecoins into Everyday Finance" at @XRPSEOUL (Oct 3) in Seoul this Saturday. Well be digging into two topics that are reshaping how money moves: x-chain liquidity and how neobanks can put stablecoins to work.
This is an especially exciting conversation to have in Korea where mobile-first banks have already shown how quickly people will adopt better financial experiences. Among an incredible line-up of panelists I'll also be joined by @kakaopay_kr one of the neobanks absolutely dominating in this space in the Korean market. Cant wait to share perspectives.
If you're in Seoul, come say hi! π Grand Hyatt Seoul | 6PM
this is a total game changer for the machine economy. Theyβre building flexible de-risked financing for the middle market β a clear winner for RWA x physical AI & @plcapital are proud to have backed them pre-YCπ
Today, we're launching Masterpiece (YC P26).
@masterpiece_lab
We finance the companies building the intelligence economy, giving AI data vendors capital today instead of waiting 30β90 days for frontier labs to pay, funded through our $10M+ institutional credit facility and onchain liquidity via $USDml (coming soon).
Every era has its masterpieces. Weβre financing the next ones.
Today we announce PL Capital Rails Computing Primitives Thesis. I've been proud to work with my partner @Bholden on investing around this & impressed by the clarity with which he expresses it here.
The core idea: crypto primitives aren't a vertical, they're much closer to math. Crypto proofs, FHE, TEEs, and tokens show up wherever a system needs a guarantee it can't get any other way. From the outside, that can make a portfolio look scattered. From the inside, it's a concentrated bet on a small set of tools with unusually wide reach.
Our filter is simple: if what you're building could be spun up with a simple database or a normal payments API, it's likely not for us.
Instead, we're backing technically complex bets that leverage cryptography to future-proof the internet and the next generation of infrastructure.
We believe AI agents, private compute, and the machine economy broadly mean the first generation of customers have finally arrived. If you're building here, reach out π«‘
I've been trying to get a meeting with @Bholden for months. Turns out all I had to do was attend the AgenticZero Summit during SF Tech Week to find him π
Managing Partner @Bholden will be speaking at @AgenticZero during @Techweek_. If you're an early-stage founders building with cryptographic and decentralized systems, go find Brad. π€
What struck me most about the Primary Venture Summit in NYC last week wasn't the sheer volume of investors and founders in the room, but the themes that had become central.
Hardware is having a genuine moment. A few years ago it would have taken effort to steer a conversation in that direction. In fact I remember posting a somewhat cheeky "who's investing in hardware?" in 2021 and getting nothing but crickets back. Last week? It was an inescapable part of any conversation and we've been investing in it for almost a decade.
Quantum resilience. AI infrastructure. Cryptography as the foundation tying it all together. These weren't niche topics reserved for the deep tech crowd. Both the VCs AND LPs I chatted with were leaning in, asking sharp questions, clearly recalibrating where they think the leverage points are in the stack.
But I also noticed something wild as I kept bumping into old and new friends: the room wasn't just NYC-native. There were investors & LPs -alike who'd made the trek from the Bay. A lot of them. In a city where hotels cost as much as a seed check (& I slept on my friend's couch because fashion week didn't care about my travel budget), people were still showing up.
That caught me off guard in the best way. It's easy to think of tech ecosystems as siloed, but what I'm seeing now is that the "center" is genuinely broad. NYC isn't just growing--it's increasingly becoming a place people travel to invest in, and clearly see as part of the conversation.
Grateful for everyone I connected with and to my friend's couch!
As the labs keep talking about (p)doom based on the models/data that only they can see internally and seeking regulatory capture, @gensynai is releasing OPEN-1B, with a full audit trail from weight initialization to final trained checkpoint that can be verified on decentralized, heterogeneous hardware so you don't have to trust black box, centralized models
