@KarenMyhr I've been wanting to see Saundra McGuire speak for at least 5 years. I'm also looking forward to the workshop on assessment, the final keynote, and the short talks/poster sessions!
@Dr_KatieG1 Late policy had to be relatively strict due to size of class and auto release of answer keys; community building through small group case studies and synchronous labs (optional in person component)
@Dr_KatieG1 Intro Cell/Molec Bio, 470 students, totally asynchronous; Worked well: bite-sized mini-lectures, comprehension worksheets, clear expectations on assessments, frequent low-stakes quizzes; things to improve: lower disc prompt freq & offer choices and more creativity
Awesome new paper in @CBELifescied by @Dr_DanR and colleagues: "We document seven concrete strategies that instructors used to promote equitable participation in their online classes and that can be incorporated by biology educators into their online teaching."
A reminder, 400 years after the Mayflower, that the Wampanoag people are still here, still practicing our culture, and still facing adversity
We didn’t just disappear or go extinct. And so I want to note some of the amazing things that we’re doing as a people (THREAD 👇)
I reside on the ancestral and unceded lands of the Pawtucket and Massachusett Indigenous people. This land was sold by (read: stolen from) Squaw Sachem, a woman leader of the Pawtucket, to the colonizers. She was forced to resettle in the Praying Indian Town of Pompanoag.
Today, we recognize that history is muddled with revisionist stories that don’t mention the genocide, exploitation, and colonization of Indigenous Peoples’ land. It’s past time that we recognize the harm done to Indigenous communities during this National Day of Mourning.
