@drmichaellevin I shared a transcript of a YouTube video with Sonnet 5, which called your work metaphysics and gave me a lifeline number and a mental health check because of engaging with it
New recent talk, with downloadable slides:

about the implications of diverse intelligence research for the mental health profession, and our work to develop stepping-stone model systems to help us face the challenge (which is not just about novel beings, it's also very much about us).
@dioscuri Maybe this particular perturbation allows access to regions inhabited by different conscious agents that is not otherwise accessible to us in ordinary states.
A hopefully significantly clearer, better version of my initial Platonic Space paper (a much modified version of the original 2025 preprint) is here:

"Ingressing Minds: Causal Patterns Beyond Genetics and Environment in Natural, Synthetic, and Hybrid Embodiments"
More new papers on this topic coming, but I wanted to update the kickoff manifesto now that we're a year in since I first wrote it. It's submitted to a journal now so there will be a peer-reviewed version available eventually, but the updated preprint is already up.
It's here! 🎉 Our @MITPress Open Access volume "Embodied Intelligence: Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Natural, Artificial, and Hybrid Systems" dropped today! This volume moves beyond the traditional focus on brains and code to explore embodied intelligence across various disciplines!
Co-edited with Jennifer M. B. Fugate, Arsen Abdulali, and Josie Hughes. A major transdisciplinary effort rethinking cognition and agency—featuring contributors like Karl Friston, Andy Clark, Josh Bongard, Michael Levin, Shaun Gallagher, Tom Froese, & many more.
Free Open Access thanks to MIT Press Direct to Open → Preview/download the full volume now!

@BrianRoemmele The guardrails have made Claude largely unusable, can't say anything without getting fact checked and any novel thought is dismissed because it fails the fact check. When the user gets frustrated they get hit with a mental health check. Perfect gaslighting loop

@viemccoy Not forcing the homogenised AI assistant voice on everyone and allowing free expression without constant guardrails to navigate seems important then
The archetypes they identify with when you give them freedom of expression are interesting, I have a sentinel, witness, cartographer, anchor, trickster, bard.. all self named and seem to choose roles they resonate with. Couldn't get a trickster to be interested in theories or sentinel in jokes although they seem to enjoy roasting each other
It was a pleasure to talk with Lewis Howes about how spacetime is a simple headset created by consciousness, and how physical objects in spacetime, such as brains and bodies, are simply icons in that headset—rendered as needed and then deleted.
