We strongly condemn the #Ethiopiangovernment ethnic motivated war against #Amhara and call for immediate ceasefire, release of journalists and political prisoners.
Dozens of journalists were detained in Ethiopia  following the effort to dismantle the Amhara region special forces and disarm Fano. Ethiopia's federal government under @AbiyAhmedAli jailed scores of journalists, human rights activists, politicians, and academics with trumped up charges.
Meskerem Abera, a former lecturer, now a well-known journalist & human rights activist, Dawit Begashaw, Tewodros Asfaw, Genet Asmamaw, Abay Zewudu, Bekalu Alamirew, and Yidnekachew Kebede are also detained. Between April 3 and April 13, 2023, six journalists were detained in Ethiopia, including Dawit Begashaw, founder and editor of Arat Kilo Media, Genet Asmamaw, reporter for Yegna Media, and Meskerem Abera, founder and editor of Ethio Nikat Media. As of Wednesday, August 30, the majorities of them are still being held captive and are subject to torture, beatings, and racial slurs. The renowned journalist Dawit is one of the founders, executive members and spokesperson of the Ethiopian Mass Media Professionals Association (EMMPA). EMMPA, which is established in 2020, is a non-governmental charity organization which aspires for the advancement of professional freedom of journalists and media. 
In its April 2023 report, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) characterized the crackdowns as an assault on the freedom of speech and the press. According to CPJ, the Ethiopian government (led by PM Abiy Ahmed Ali) received requests from 47 human rights groups alone in April 2023 to stop blocking digital communications and the internet. Numerous journalists were forced to leave the country as a result of the government's severe actions and media crackdowns. Among the journalists who were forced to flee from the country are Yayesew Shimelis, Tewodros Asfaw, Misgan Zinabe, and Mulugeta Anberbir. 
The reckless dictatorship of PM Abiy Ahmed also has scores of academics and human rights activists in prison. Many of the academics imprisoned in connection with the current government crackdown on media and human rights figures include Dr. Wondwosen Assefa, Sisay Awugechew (Ass. Prof.), Maeregu Biyabeyin (Ass. Prof.), Meseret Qelemework (Ph.D.), and Ermias Mekuria. There are more than 50 media and human rights figures altogether. Prior to this, there were raids and crackdowns on media houses. Among those impacted by the media crackdown are Ethiopian Insider and Arat Kilo Media. 
Without honoring their right to immunity, police also detained significant politicians and members of the Parliament. Those detained were Kasa Teshager (PhD), a member of the Addis Ababa municipal administration council, and Christian Tadele, the chairman of the Parliament's plan and budget standing committee. At the period of their arrest, reports of the physical abuse and torture they endured started to surface.  Numerous victims experienced incommunicado detentions and forced disappearances in Amhara and Orimia regions, in and around Addis Ababa. The majority of these detentions and arrests are reportedly part of the regime's campaign against Amharas.
We call upon the #US, #AU, #UN and international community to pressure #Ethiopiangovernment to stop the war on #Amhara and release political prisoners without any preconditions.

The American Ethiopian Public Affairs Committee regards the report from the untied nations as described by Marta Hurtado very disturbing and a concern for all peace loving people of the free world. “ many of those detained were reported to be young people of Amhara ethnic origin”. A dangerous sign of ethically motivate attack by the a government of Ethiopia on its Amhara citizens.

The United Nations calls Ethiopian .authorities “to stop mass arrests, ensure that any deprivation of liberty is judicially reviewed and release those arbitrary detained. Authorities must ensure that conditions comply with international norms and standards. “

The UN further calls all international oversight bodies to be given unconditional access to all places of detention.
AEPAC calls the United States congress and the State Department to join international bodies in guaranteeing the safety of detainees, full protection of their human rights, fair trail and demand to stop all human rights violations and abuses in all regions of Ethiopia, while holding individuals accountable for these and other related atrocities.

#Ethiopia's interest to have access to ports, to not one but multiple ports, should be negotiated with neighboring countries within the spirit and framework of regional partnership and cooperation per international and regional frameworks, laws, and norms. If only Ethiopia had a statesman with strategic vision, wisdom, and a degree of integrity. A leader, unlike the slick-willy and sick one we have, who can win the confidence, goodwill, and trust of the people he is ruling, the neighboring states, and even the international community. But at the present, we are not blessed with such a leader. Unfortunately, the latest agenda of getting "Assab Port and the Red Sea legally or by force" is born out of the megalomaniacal and delusional hidden design of #AbiyAhmedAli, the 7th King, who has told a selectively invited Oromo elite, about 200 that his ambition, rather delusion is to form "an East African Oromo Empire: #Eritrea, #Djibouti, and #Somalia." These were the words he uttered four and half years ago, and there is more to what he said, not once but repeated on a few other occasions. Now, he is covering his sickly delusional agenda with a seemingly "nationalist" agenda to re-galvanize the near-total loss of support among Ethiopians he enjoyed upon coming to the helm. Abiy's cadres, former ambassadors, and ministers are instructed to peddle the idea and plan to the public at large to serve Abiy and his Oromia PP's designs. Such futile exercise is but part of Oromia PP's hegemonic and expansionist designs being carried out within Ethiopia and now with an ambition to extend to the wider sub-region, which is anathema to both internal and regional peace and stability. When put atop the raging conflicts in the Amhara and Oromia regions, Abiy's gamble has the potential to ignite perpetual conflicts and misery in the sub-region.
