@ira_joseph@ColumbiaUEnergy E.g. Imagine if methane allocation in the Permian were tied to Midland and Waha instead of straight energy content? It'd be some of the best gas in the world! Instead it's one of the "worst."
@ira_joseph@ColumbiaUEnergy That's doing the wrong thing for the wrong reason. Methane emissions regs ignore economics and are almost hopelessly conflated with methane use. Russia was a very different nation in 1997 than it was in 1977. Pressure on Russia should tie to geopolitics, not climate rules.
@amirtibon@WAR527 This overstates the case quite a bit. There is no stomach in the US for sanctions on Israel, and it remains wildly popular with a subset of the population. But it's absolutely true that this war has weakened the US-Israel alliance, on both sides of the aisle.
@LizAnnSonders@SocialSecurity@DataArbor Raising the retirement age raises the living standards of everyone involved by growing the labor supply and raising real output. Any other "fix" results in slower real growth. Seniors may fight bitterly for this program if they choose, but they do so at the expense of the future.
@BoringBiz_ I get the point. I don't think Ackman is saying we should buy $SPCX. Just that a stock with an absurd valuation has an absurd advantage when it comes to raising equity and doing deals. The upshot is you'd better do some good deals or your valuation won't be absurd for long.
@SMB_Attorney The Museum Tower was a large real estate deal (not a VC deal) that made up a huge portion of the Dallas Police and Fire Pension. The main issue is the investment amount relative to the portfolio as a whole, not trying to figure out what constitutes "gambling" for a pension.
@dampedspring@StoneHillWealth@bauhiniacapital S&P needs TTM GAAP profit anyway, so SpaceX won't qualify for a while. Not sure if they were considering dropping that requirement.
Still my prior that this thing isn't over yet and negotiations are a ploy to get more soldiers in theatre for the real operation. If it is what it looks like, it's one of the most embarrassing strategic positions the United States has been in in a long time.
