"Calf strength and tendon stiffness significantly influence robustness and help prevent lower limb injuries. Boosting ankle power at toe-off can decrease hip joint forces by up to 12.5% in athletes with groin pain."

This week on the Pacey Performance Podcast...
@r_tourillon talks:
Main talking points:
⬛ Intrinsic muscles are often overemphasized in training
⬛ Extrinsic muscles play a larger role in force production
⬛ Dynamic contractions, not just isometrics are necessary for building calf strength
⬛ Isometric training alone is insufficient for optimal performance
⬛ The foot and ankle are frequently underloaded in training regimens
⬛ How to assess the soleus, tibialis anterior and tibialis posterior

The gastrocnemius has greater capacity to contribute to plantar-flexion when the muscle is lengthened (both at the knee and also at the ankle). This suggests that lengthened partials will be useful for this muscle in accordance with the principle of neuromechanical matching.
SPRINT RSI! I bet this improves your coaching eye!
Questions I am asking about my programs during running rehab.
Do our improvement in “switching” transfer to better sprinting? Can I measure that?
Do our improvement in strength/power increase PROJECTION (rebound height through minimum yield)
Does improvement in calf ankle qualities improve reactivity (low ground time, low yield ankle , good postures) ?
Throw back to @aspetar
On the weekend I shared a snippet of a project I have been running with our rehabbers!
We see a great alignment between thigh angular velocity and SPRINT RSI.
It’s a a great teaching and training tool to use before and during early running exposure.
You get all of the intra /inter-limb sequencing, reflexive patterning and vertical forces whilst not having to deal with large eccentric forces on the hamstrings.
The box height is important as a constraint to encourage rebound and height after hitting the floor.
The knowledge of results (ground time/height) provides instant feedback, and is really useful for the rehabber to calibrate their execution.
I need you guys to take this exercise and run with it.
How do your lower limb rehabbers look when executing?
Does your coaching, constraints or just exposure have positive impacts on sequencing and outputs?
Keen to get your feedback!

Hamstring Muscle-Tendon Geometric Adaptations to Resistance Training Using the Hip Extension and Nordic Hamstring Exercises

A short summary 🧵 below 👇🏻
The lack of good models for human tendons has made it tough to develop injury treatments.
Now, scientists (@Mahwish_Syed90@3bsuminho) built a 3D tendon-on-chip that mimics how tendons work at a cellular level, paving the way for better therapies.
