If we are going to live and work on the Moon, build the Moon Base, and eventually journey to Mars, we have to master the technologies that make sustained operations possible.
There is impressive work happening at the University of North Dakota on habitats, spacesuits, human performance, mobility, and autonomous systems that directly connects to those challenges.
Today, @SenJohnHoeven, General Guetlein, and I saw that work firsthand, touring UND’s lunar and Mars analog habitat and spacesuit lab while meeting with the students and researchers working through the real challenges of how humans will live, move, and operate on other worlds.
We also joined the UAS Summit to talk about how advances in autonomy and aviation are opening up new challenges and possibilities across both air and space.
North Dakota is helping build the capabilities America will need for the missions ahead. Thank you to Senator Hoeven, General Guetlein, and everyone at @UofNorthDakota for the warm welcome and outstanding work.

Shaken, spun, baked, and blasted!
A commercial lander that will be at the forefront of establishing @NASAMoonBase, humanity’s first lunar outpost, has passed a series of critical tests at JPL. 1/2
NASA’s vision for a permanent Moon base is bringing humanity closer to a new era of exploration. “Moonbase Alpha” could become our next giant leap, a gateway to groundbreaking discoveries, new frontiers, and eventually Mars. The future is among the stars!
MOONBASE ALPHA is closer than we think!
Imagine a permanent human outpost beneath the lunar surface, protected from radiation and extreme temperatures.
What was once science fiction could become humanity’s first foothold beyond Earth.
The Moon is our next frontier. Mars is our future.
JUST IN: NASA investigates massive hole on the Moon that scientists believe could lead into an enormous cave potentially suitable for future astronaut bases.
The Moon is not our final destination. It’s our gateway to MARS.
Moonbase Alpha could become humanity’s first stepping stone to Mars and beyond.
One day, future generations will look back and realize this was where we became a multiplanetary civilization.
@elonmusk The future isn’t something we wait for. It’s something we build.
“Going back [to the Moon]… I think it can unlock a tsunami of inspiration across the world.”
We’re building the first-ever lunar outpost! Learn about the Moon Base in this episode of Houston We Have a Podcast: https://t.co/MVQ2k3yXYw
This is the most exciting time at NASA since the Kennedy era.
@POTUS has given us the mission: return to the Moon, build the Moon Base, pioneer nuclear spaceflight, advance extraordinary science, and win the new space race.
It was great to see so many of those builders, scientists, and technologists recognized at the Golden Age of Science summit this week.
The President recognizes that American leadership requires taking on the big, bold endeavors that define American exceptionalism and empower the people with the talent and determination to turn those ambitious objectives into reality.
