The RCNet 2025 Meeting is currently underway at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Kampala, bringing together delegates from 15 National Societies across the region.

Daniel Puillet Breton – Deputy Regional Director for Movement Affairs, Africa, ICRC – at the RC Net Meeting

He has emphasized the importance of National Society-centered platforms across Africa as key spaces for dialogue and collaboration.

Further highlighted pressing global humanitarian challenges:

📌Over 130 conflicts worldwide, with half in Africa, many involving non-state armed groups (NSAGs).

📌Humanitarian funding is decreasing, while needs continue to grow, putting significant strain on agencies.

📌The current global order is influx, and Africa will be central to emerging dynamics over the next decade.

He raised concerns about:

✂️Operational security, coordination, and unity within the Movement.

✂️The risk of a "humanitarian haemorrhage" – fewer agencies remaining on the ground, leading to unmet needs.

✂️The danger of responses being focused only in government-controlled areas, potentially compromising the Fundamental Principles and neutrality of the Movement.

📌He also referenced:

↪️The ongoing Global IHL Initiative with seven active workstreams.

↪️The importance of reinforcing Movement cohesion, stakeholder relations, and maintaining a strong financial and human footprint.

↪️The upcoming Council of Delegates 2026, which will focus on "United for Humanity", following the direction set by the 2024 International Conference.

He concluded by reaffirming the ICRC's commitment to working closely with National Societies and adapting to the evolving humanitarian landscape.

@KQSupport Dear KQ people have been waiting since 1am in kigali for a 3am flight. It was pushed to 9am. Now moved to 12:55pm. There is zero communication from the airport manager and guests haven't been given even a bottle of water! Its really poor service
