@AdamSinger@jesse_brodkin@Mister_CPU@cullenroche Perhaps a reread of Sen's "Development is freedom" is warranted. If we can extol the virtues of comparative advantage over absolute advantage we sure should appreciate the preference people have for absolute versus relative inequality. It's not just bite sized videos mate!
@Noahpinion@mattyglesias Isn't that straight from Dani Rodrick's playbook. Manufacturing driven industrial policy is a zero sum game. Services is where the real action is. On friendshoring however, the issue is one of leakages or manufacturing treaty shopping. Is a friend of a friend also my friend?
@nikstankovic_ @BBBComplex I'm genuinely curious as to why it is only Serbs who whinge about the Balkan war? Is it because they dominated the former Yugoslavia, controlled all aspects of others lives and feel like they lost everything? AFAIK the Croats and Bosnians don't want anything to do with Serbia?
NEW: we need to talk about UK graduate wages, and the idea that Britain sends too many people to university.
American readers should stick around for the UK/US comparisons
Let’s start with this: the UK graduate wage premium has fallen substantially over the last 25 years
Correct way to be an immigrant:
—don't be unemployed and steal from public services
—don't be employed and steal a job from the native-born
—don't bring your children, parents, or family
—don't send money back to your country of birth to support your children, parents, or family
@TimxWatson@ModeledBehavior Reckon that applies to any sort of estimation methodology including VARs and SVARs in macro. You feeling me there mate?? :P
@fabiooreilly @moneyreflux@EmmaVitz Credit card surcharge is the fee that businesses have to pay to the merchant. They pass it on to you in all cases. If they don't show it on the POS, they'll include it in the cost price. Displaying it helps you decide whether you want to tap away or slot in or go away.
@fabiooreilly @moneyreflux@EmmaVitz Why? Most people can use EFTPOS to pay without the surcharge. It's the lack of info at the point of sale that made them use a credit card or paywave and incur a fee. Information assymetry is always bad.
@charles_h_wolf@JosephPolitano Resources are proven, probable and possible. This chat shows the sun of all three . Oz has high proven resources, a well established extraction industry and low sovereign risk. But yeah, Chile is a decent competitor.
