The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC strongly condemns the shameful attack and obstruction of our Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, by suspected hired thugs in Benue State today.

We are happy to announce that our Motion for Leave to File Brief Amicus Curiae and Supplemental Notice of Evidentiary Exhibits have been "officially accepted" and docketed with the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. Both submissions have now been officially entered on the federal docket in Greenspan v. Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys et al., Case No. 1:23-cv-01816-BAH. We thank President Tinubu (@officialABAT), his advisers, and his ministers for refusing to stop digging themselves into a hole.

Our submissions are now officially part of the docket and before the Court for consideration, regardless of whether President #Tinubu opposes them. This is a major victory for the American and Nigerian people. Our objective was to ensure that the Court is fully aware that the Nigerian Presidency and senior Nigerian officials have publicly discussed this case while President #Tinubu was simultaneously seeking privacy protection before the Court. You cannot demand privacy in a U.S. federal court while publicly litigating the same controversy and attacking those advocating for disclosure.

We are very pleased with this outcome because, regardless of whether the Court ultimately grants or denies our Motion for Leave, our submissions are now on the docket, and the Court has before it evidence concerning public statements by President #Tinubu’s officials and relatives about the underlying controversy, as well as their public mischaracterizations of facts relating to the case. Two months ago, Peter Obi raised an alarm that "I MIGHT BE KILLED BEFORE THE 2027 ELECTION. Because of what he was seeing, witnessing, and being subjected to by this APC government. The presidency was quick to dismiss his claims, rather than beefing up his security, and calling their radical party members to order.

What happened today in Benue state is just a flash to what Peter Obi cried about two months ago.
The plan is to attack his entourage, then use the opportunity to kill him.
The government will later tie it UNKNOWN PROTESTERS, instead of hired thugs, just as the Benue state government did. At best the government will promise to bring the perpetrators of the dastardly act to book. That would have been the end of the story, as they will gather themselves much later to laugh at us.
We all saw how security officials were left helpless when those thugs started attacking with stones, sticks and other dangerous weapons on them.

If it were to be genuine unemployed protesters, protesting against unemployment and hunger in Benue state, or people protesting against insecurity, i am 100% sure by now so many would have been unalived or sent to different hospitals with bullet wounds by those security agents on ground.

It is the sole responsibility of this APC led Federal government to protect the life of Peter Obi and every other presidential candidate from any form of threat or violence by providing them with adequate security while on their individual campaign trains.

But as things stands at the moment, it is now obvious that we well meaning Nigerians, Peter Obi supporters, NDC supporters can not entrust the life of Peter Obi solely on the hands of the Nigerian security architecture, with the event we all witnessed today in Benue state.

I hereby call on Peter Obi' supporters, Nigerians of good conscience, NDC members in any state Peter Obi is to visit, to mobilize themselves in their thousands to welcome, defend and secure him. They should all gather to the airport, wait for him to land, then escort him to wherever he is visiting in their States.

No one man, group or individual alone has the monopoly to violence. You will beat a goat to a point that he might bite.

Tinubu's government should do the needful to calm down the already heightened political tension in the land.

They are scared of the man who came third.

Peter Obi is the reason Nigeria is relatively peaceful today. He has the capacity to shut down the country, but he won’t do that. His love for you trumps his ambition. He doesn’t want any harm to come your way. It is obvious the APC are the sponsors of the terrorism going on. They pull all the levers of power.

It is so because that is the power you gave to them. Their authority is what you say it is.

They fear unity, they will challenge any attempt to unite Nigerians. What Peter Obi represents is dangerous, it has the capacity to end impunity & criminality for good. They see in him, the capacity to galvanize Nigerians toward nation-building. One nation, under God, moving with a shared purpose. The APC cannot have that!

They would rather see the country burn to rule over its ashes. One candidate is Awol, hidden away in an undisclosed location, no one knows where he is. Meanwhile, Nigeria's official presidential jet is parked somewhere in Europe, accumulating debt on your behalf. In contrast, another candidate is traveling across Nigeria, doing his best to help citizens get started.

Yet, despite his efforts, he faces constant attacks from the government in power.

The government is truly unwise. The more you persecute Peter, the more Nigerians will rally to his cause. History is replete with examples.

In a place where anarchy rules, the innocent is the one receiving the most abuse. In a place where peace reigns, only the guilty is afraid.

They fear the candidate who supposedly came third, & now something has to give. We must activate every directorate of the OK Movement.

People must organize a welcoming party on the ground in every state, ready to welcome Peter Obi & mobilize for his protection. We have many powers we haven't even used. Fear is the enemy; they rule through fear. When people fear you, they will come to respect you.

This is not the time to cower; our mothers gave birth to no cowards. Once we lose our sense of fear, we are free. My People, there is a battle ahead. Ready yourselves, BE PREPARED! 💪

Peter Obi: Benue Protest Against My Visit Initiated by Governor’s Special Adviser

I am currently in Benue State to express my condolences to the families who have lost over 200 members to terrorist attacks in recent times. However, I have been informed that youths, led by the Special Adviser to the Benue State Governor, have blocked the road to prevent me from proceeding. I have been here for a while, hoping they would see reason.
We cannot continue like this. There are people who are hungry and insecure. These are the same people we must lift out of poverty by creating opportunities for them to earn a livelihood. That is one of the key purposes of my visit.

How Hired Thugs Obstructed My Visit to Benue State

Yesterday, I attended the opening of the national campaign office of an opposition presidential candidate, Governor Seyi Makinde in Abuja. My presence was intended to demonstrate that politics can and should be conducted in an atmosphere of mutual respect and civility. As Governor of Anambra State, I made it a point during electioneering to welcome visiting opposition members personally, provided they acted within the ambits of the law.

Guided by that same commitment to decency over partisanship, I travelled to Benue this morning, arriving at approximately 9:00 a.m. on a purely humanitarian mission: to visit the grieving families affected by the horrific killings in Yelwata, where over 270 people were massacred.

Regrettably, our convoy was prevented from proceeding to the community by thugs chanting, “Peter Obi, go back.” It was deeply distressing to witness such hostility. I came to Benue not for partisan politics, but to mourn with our people, to listen to families who have lost loved ones, and to offer comfort at a moment of unimaginable sorrow. That a mission intended purely to show solidarity, compassion, and support could be obstructed in this manner is deeply alarming.

At a time when our nation should be united in grief and resolute in preventing further bloodshed, we must reject any action capable of deepening our divisions. The people of Benue - and all Nigerians - deserve to sleep without fear. They deserve to travel without fear. They deserve to cultivate their land without fear. Above all, they deserve a country where the state places the protection of human life far above political expediency.

Although we were unable to reach the community today, our thoughts and prayers remain steadfastly with the victims, their families, and the entire Yelwata community. We shall continue to work until the primary responsibility of government - the safeguarding of every Nigerian life - is restored. Until then, we cannot truly say we have built the nation our people deserve.
