This reflection captures the essence of feminist monitoring: documenting evidence is not only about recording what happens, but about doing so with care and accountability.

Through SIHA Network's Training on Feminist Monitoring and Accountability in Mogadishu, Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Champions, community monitors, and women leaders from Mogadishu, Baidoa, and Hargeisa strengthened their capacity to document women's experiences safely and ethically. Participants also developed practical skills to generate community-rooted evidence that can inform advocacy, strengthen accountability, influence decision-making, and advance women's rights across Somalia.

Press Statement

@kalkalhuman strongly condemns the continued arrest and intimidation of journalists in Mogadishu, which represents a serious violation of press freedom and freedom of expression.

The recent detention of Mohamed Ali Qadaaye of Iftiimiye TV, following the earlier arrest of Abdukadir Abukar Ali (Diirshe) of Somali Stream, raises deep concern over the shrinking civic space for journalists and media professionals in Somalia. These actions undermine the role of the media in informing the public and holding institutions accountable.

KAHRDO calls on the Somali authorities to immediately and unconditionally end all arbitrary arrests and harassment of journalists. We further urge the government to uphold constitutional guarantees on freedom of expression, ensure full respect for media freedom, and create a safe and enabling environment where journalists can perform their professional duties without fear, intimidation, or retaliation.

Freedom of the press is a cornerstone of democracy and must be protected at all times.

Big milestone for our work with women and girls in Somalia and Somaliland!

The final evaluation of our project "We Have Rights: Protecting IDP and Minority Women and Girls from SGBV in Southwest Somalia and Somaliland," supported by the UN Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women, is now published in the @UNTrustFundEVAW Evaluation Library.

It highlights stronger survivor-centred services; 50 women’s rights organisations engaged through two coalitions, community-led protection mechanisms and important shifts in attitudes toward gender-based violence and harmful practices.
