Our collaborative work with the @NAT_machinery lab on NAA80 is now published in @LSAjournal.
Actin is a critical component of the eukaryotic cytoskeleton, it undergoes unique N-terminal processing by dedicated enzymes, resulting in a mature, acidic, and acetylated form. In humans, NAA80 catalyzes N-terminal acetylation, the final step in this process.
To investigate the loss of NAA80 function, our labs created zebrafish models for Naa80. Our findings demonstrate that zebrafish Naa80 acetylates various forms of actin, including muscle and non-muscle actins, and plays a crucial role in normal hearing.
Actin is N-terminally acetylated, but the physiological significance of this modification is still mysterious...This #zebrafish collab between @medofak_uib and @OMRF finds a role for this PTM in inner ear function @NAT_machinery @varshneylab@rasmusree https://t.co/5FzUAglF8A
