For 250-300 bu corn, that means each day from R4 to the end is worth 3.5-4 bushels. At half milk line, it's still accumulating up to 2 bu/day of kernel weight. At R5.5, you want to see green stalks to the ground, and green leaves from the ear to the top of the plants.
A little rain and wind just made hidden rootworm problems visible in SW MN. Northern corn rootworm #extendeddiapause problems return. RW management just got more complicated. @mncorn
If you see a bunch of black beetles in your corn, they are likely Red-Headed Flea beetles. They will scrape the top layer of the leaf off leaving these white rectangles on the surface. They will feed on the silks as well as bean leaves but very seldom cause economical damage.
According to this article, smoke and haze from 🔥reduces photosynthetic radiation ~3-11%. Cloudy days are ~20 less than a sunny day. Rainy day is 60% less. 💨 can also increase surface ozone levels which could damage soy leaves. https://t.co/Oxu1iHCb5K
A BIG big shout out! #Pioneer employees supported @NextLevelAg365 on the first year out! Thank you for your hard work and dedication at bringing your growers the Next Level View of the plants/soils nutritional levels throughout 2020! Manage nutrition to maximize great genetics!!
Appreciate UMN support in identification of our submitted samples. We confirmed Tar Spot presence in Freeborn County. Below is an example to help us become adept at identifying tar spot. No concerns related to corn yield this year.
Long term Corn/Soybean rotated field in Martin Co. No insecticide or Traits used for a long time. Extended Diapause Northern CRW feeding. My Jr. Agronomist is thinking #Qrome in the future! @PioneerSeeds
Warm, humid, wet conditions driving more Physoderma Brown Spot development this year. A lot of purple leaf sheath showing since pollination as well; note the difference. https://t.co/weOh6yKlrA
Hot topic the past few days: “I missed R3 stage with my Soybean Fungicide. My beans look like they’re at R4. Will I benefit?” Here’s a chart from Pioneer Agronomy Sciences to guide that decision.
Avoid mistaken identity scouting fields for foliar diseases in corn. Bacterial leaf streak & corn leaf blotch miner can be mistaken for Grey Leaf Spot. Fungicides will NOT be effective on them. As they taught me in ‘Firearm Safety’: “Know your Target before you pull the trigger.”
