Thanks to @AZadoorian22 for finishing up this review. Lipid droplets are connected with many disease conditions. Here we summarize the latest on the biogenesis and functions of lipid droplets. We discuss a key role for lipid droplets in alleviating cellular stresses.

Thanks @rob8yang for the absolute privilege and joy of writing this with you and @ximingDu!🧵
With so many great reviews on LDs already out, do we need another?
Sarah @cohenlaboratory & I were approached by @NatRevMCB to organize a review on LD heterogeneity and inter-organelle contacts...topics often in reviews, but not a focus. Fun project!

The NHMRC yesterday announced final allocations for the year. The 2025 success rate for Ideas grants was 10%, Investigator grants 13%, and Clinical Trials 9%.
Australia's total spend on healthcare and technology innovation in medicine and biotech from the Medical Research Endowment Account and Medical Research Future Fund this year will equate to the cost of 0.004 submarines.
We're spending more on a single submarine than we'll spend on medical research in 30 years.
Medical research matters. A clever country invests in the things that matter.

Adipocytes have developed a unique regulatory mechanism to produce giant, unilocular lipid droplets.
Fat storage in the body relies on specialized structures called lipid droplets. In a new Science study, researchers identified the microprotein adipogenin as a regulator of adipocyte lipid droplet size, revealing a key mechanism in lipid homeostasis.

Glad to see this online. From a random control experiment, we unexpectedly noticed that CIDE proteins and LD-localized ORP proteins cannot coexist on LDs. Through a series of experiments, we show that ORP2/5 keeps CIDE proteins away from LDs by depleting LD surface PI(4)P.
