“… As my sufferings mounted I soon realized that there were two ways in which I could respond to my
situation — either to react with bitterness or seek to transform the
suffering into a creative force.
I decided to follow the latter course.”

We need patience to protect our peace of mind, our compassionate mind. Patience is part of our defence, as is forgiveness. Enemies and troublemakers are helpful in that they give us the opportunity to exercise patience and forgiveness.
Education should include training in how to be calm and unafraid. Since scientists now recognise the significance of warm-heartedness and peace of mind in personal and social well-being, it’s time training to cultivate such qualities was included in the general education system.

Exercise is *remarkably* beneficial for the brain.
High fitness levels in midlife delayed dementia onset by 9.5 years in women. Larger brain volumes have also been linked to increased physical activity.
Maintain youthful brain volume by embracing exercise. We can transform our brain health as we age.
‘#1 is having light during the day, particularly in the morning.
#sunlight is free.
… Going outside during the day is such a good thing for your sleep & overall mental & physical health.
My #2 is to treat #sleep as you’d treat a friend.”

“Irritability, #selfdefeating talk, & statements that are ‘over-generalizing their own unworthiness,’ are all signs someone is not in a great place mentally, Dr. @thema4apa said.
… There are also steps you can take to deflect negativity,”

A Harvard-trained psychologist says this is the No. 1 way to shut down negativity in your friendships https://t.co/aMgM8eqFoO (I was glad to share in today’s story on friendship!)
#Research: "We found the higher the intensity of #exercise, the more beneficial it is. Exercising for 6-12 wks has the greatest benefits, rather than shorter periods. Longer-term exercise is important for maintaining #mentalhealth improvements." #life https://t.co/kV9hyJLOwl
A truly important book for everyone to read about physical health, longevity & emotional health. Full of information and tools. This is a true gem. @PeterAttiaMD
Dr Anna Lembke MD @StanfordMed deserves credit for pointing out that recovered addicts are heros because they managed to successfully navigate dopamine dynamics— which is something that most everyone else, addict or no, grapples with in our modern world & we don’t even realize.
Human beings are social animals. What brings us together is love and affection—anger drives us apart. Just as we employ physical hygiene to protect our health, we must use ‘emotional hygiene’ to tackle our destructive emotions and achieve peace of mind.
“You can also ‘praise kids’ effort over the outcome, @AmyMorinLCSW says.
If you only offer praise when your child gets an A, or when they score the winning goal in soccer, they might be less likely to try new activities if they don’t excel right away.”

“This is more of a lesson for them becoming men than it is about basketball.” 👏
Everyone needs to hear this perspective from Jerome Tang (@CoachJTang )

Both running and antidepressants were comparable in terms of reducing depressive symptoms.
However, running therapy improved the participant's health, including body weight, waist size, blood pressure, and heart rate variability.

To be clear, calm and focused:
1) Sleep well and enough (for you).
2) If you didn’t sleep well, don’t externalize your thoughts any more than absolutely necessary until after you do.
A meaningful life is not about material gain, power or fame; these are only of passing value. True meaning comes from an inner sense of peace and contentment, which in turn must be based on a sense of caring and love for others.
Happy 2nd birthday to the happiest dog in world!!

“…oxytocin pathway, so that just by making eye contact, or by playing & hugging, #oxytocin in both us & our #dog goes up.
Dogs are wonderful in any kind of #stressful situation.”

It is important to cultivate the inner values of patience, tolerance, forgiveness, contentment, and self-discipline. These inner values help us to remain calm and composed in difficult situations and to be free from the negative emotions of anger, jealousy and hatred.
