We are excited to share a new preprint from our amazing postdoc @alexjbott ! Alex designed a new CRISPR screening platform called TRoUT-FISH to identify transcriptional activators and repressors of various genes of interest! Check out his tweetorial below!
Happy to share our new preprint from @RutterLab. To understand how genes are controlled, we developed a method we call TRoUT-FISH, using CRISPR + RNA-FISH. We found that glycolytic gene expression is fine-tuned by lineage specifying transcription factors.

It's a two-fer Tuesday. We are ecstatic to share this preprint from our amazing postdoc @CNFXC. Corey solved a long-standing question in the field of transport biology, identifying SLC16A6 as a melanosomal tyrosine transporter.
This is a bit of a tale of two stories: weโre deeply intrigued by the biology and we think that this method is incredibly useful. It fills a gap in the field to ask gene-centric regulatory questions. We hope you enjoy the preprint, reach out with feedback!

Two for Thursday: We want to highlight another fantastic collaboration, this time with William Oldham's lab at Brown University and our @N8Krah, demonstrating that MCT4 is a druggable target in pulmonary fibrosis. Check it out here: https://t.co/W5a3hERl30 @UofUHematology@huntsmancancer
Congrats to everyone involved!
We want to highlight a new collaborative project, led by @yliu_UofU lab with help from our superstar @UofUHematology Fellow @N8Krah, on the implementation of a novel CRISPR-Cas system to selectively kill cancer cells! #RisingStar#CRISPR
๐งฌ New paper out in @Nature! We used CRISPR to selectively kill cancer cells based on a single-letter mutation in their RNA. The story I want to highlight: KRAS โ one of the most notorious drivers of human cancer. A short thread on what we found ๐งต
We are excited to announce that our recent collaborative paper, led by the superstar duo Rebekah Nicholson and Luis Cedeรฑo-Rosario, which identified how ceramides alter mitochondrial structure and function after acute kidney injury was selected to participate in #STATMadness! Check it the press release here: https://t.co/kCoLb7ScUx

Starting the 2026 with excellent news! Congratulations to graduate students Queren Alcantara (@queren_alcca) and James Carrington for receiving the AHA Predoctoral Fellowship! @AHAScience@UofUBiochem@hhmi_science ๐ฌ๐งช๐
#RedoxBio25 kicked off yesterday with a fantastic opening talk from Jared Rutter (@RutterLab) on โEvolution of Metabolic Regulation.โ
A great start to an exciting conference!
We are excited to announce our 2025 @UofUDMRC Postdoctoral Rising Stars in Metabolism Symposium! This is truly a unique opportunity to network, present your research, and enjoy the breathtaking views that Salt Lake City has to offer. Deadline is May 15th, 2025. Please share!
The Rutter Lab is attending @ASBMB! If you are interested in cell metabolism, check out Jared, @queren_alcca and @luisci22 research talks in the sessions below. See you in Chicago! Also, you can follow now the Rutter Lab on Bluesky! @UofUBiochem @HHMINEWS @cziscience@BWFUND
Hello everyone! I am helping to organize a one-day symposium on fluorescent metabolite biosensors and their use in metabolism research. It will be May 12-13 and associated with the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory โMechanisms of Metabolic Signalingโ Symposium. Our field needs to be able to visualize metabolism with spatial and temporal resolution and this symposium will explore what to do and how to do it, with experts in metabolism and biosensor development and use. Please join us! https://t.co/8QfiKTCeDs -JR
๐จ New paper alert from the @RutterLab!!! Check out this new technique developed by our very own postdoc @CNFXC ๐๐๐ Congrats to Corey and the whole team! @UofUBiochem @HHMINEWS
I'm excited to present a small method project of mine from @RutterLab! Here we designed a dual-purification system to isolate mitochondrial subpopulations based on their proximity to membranous organelles. All constructs will be available on Addgene soon!
