The same lesson is visible in case of Palestine. For decades, Security Council and General Assembly resolutions have affirmed the rights of the Palestinian people, the inadmissibility of acquisition of territory by force, the illegality of settlement activity, the need to end occupation, and the vision of Palestinian self-determination and statehood. Yet the persistent non-implementation of these resolutions has produced a catastrophic reality. Occupation has deepened. Settlements have expanded. Civilians, especially women and children, continue to bear unbearable suffering.
My statement at the Arria-Formula Meeting on “Bridging the Implementation Gap: Security Council Resolutions and the Maintenance of International Peace and Security” co-hosted by the Pakistan and China Missions to the UN
The objection by the representative of India to Pakistan's mention of Jammu and Kashmir in the Arria Formula meeting was not surprising to us. India, as a party to the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, has actually refused to implement the Security Council resolutions on this dispute, and has even refused to cooperate with the United Nations, including the good offices of the Secretary-General, and with all those mechanisms that form part of Chapter VI.
As I stated in my statement, Kashmir is an international dispute. It is on the agenda of the Security Council. It was never a part of India, and it is not, and cannot be, part of India — because this was the core question at the heart of these Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir.
The purpose was to determine the status of this territory: whether it wishes to be part of India or Pakistan. That status has not yet been determined, because the resolutions have not been implemented. To assert that Kashmir is a part of India is, in fact, itself a violation of the relevant Security Council resolutions.
Please watch my response below to the misleading remarks of the Indian representative

ISLAMABAD: 13 June 2026.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif receives telephone call from the Prime Minister & Foreign Minister of Qatar.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif received a telephone call from His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister & Foreign Minister of the State of Qatar, this afternoon.
During their warm and cordial conversation, the Prime Minister conveyed his warm greetings and good wishes to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar as well as to the brotherly people of Qatar. These sentiments were reciprocated by the Qatari Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister expressed his deep appreciation for Qatar’s strong and steadfast support for Pakistan’s peace efforts throughout the Gulf crisis and stated that a peace deal was ready for signatures by the relevant parties very shortly.
While sincerely appreciating Pakistan’s remarkable efforts for peace, the Qatari Prime Minister paid tribute to the Prime Minister and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for playing an instrumental role in steering the diplomatic efforts. He assured the Prime Minister that Qatar was proud to extend its support to Pakistan’s endeavors and hoped that this would bring lasting peace to the region.
The Prime Minister also reiterated his invitation to His Highness the Amir of Qatar to undertake an official visit to Pakistan very soon, as was agreed between the two leaders. Both leaders agreed to remain in close contact in the coming days.
Mediation must become the guiding principle of conflict prevention, not an instrument of crisis management. During the General Assembly debate on mediation, Pakistan shared the following proposals to make mediation more meaningful:
First, mediation must begin early. The UN should invest more in early warning, quiet diplomacy, preventive engagement before disputes lead to confrontation.
Second, mediation must be anchored in international law, including the UN Charter.
Third, mediation must address root causes, not just symptoms.
Fourth, the United Nations mediation architecture must be strengthened.

Proud to present the Pakistan-made “Trionda” football during today’s friendly matches among UN diplomats, held in celebration of upcoming International Football Day 2026 and the FIFA World Cup.
With world-class footballs produced in Sialkot, Pakistan continues to play a central role in the world’s most beloved sport.
For decades, Pakistani craftsmanship has powered major global sporting events, underscoring Pakistan’s internationally recognized status as a leading manufacturer of FIFA-quality footballs.
Greatly proud of our football makers, who continue to bring laurels to the country through their exceptional craftsmanship and excellence in the art of football-making.
Heartiest congratulations on receiving the Medal @KhalilHashmi. A richly deserved honour for one of Pakistan’s finest diplomats. Proud moment for Pakistan and for all those who have had the privilege to learn from you.
It was my profound honor to receive “Outstanding Diplomat Medal” on behalf of Pakistan from Chinese Foreign Minister H.E. Wang Yi during an elegant ceremony today at @MFA_China - a first time such award was conferred.
Being awarded this honor at our most consequential diplomatic outpost, from where we guard and nourish our most ‘iron brotherhood’ is truly a rewarding feeling. However, much more can be done as for our relationship, sky is the limit. This year when we celebrate #PakChinaAt75, the motivation is even stronger!
I am grateful to the deep support extended by my colleagues at the Embassy, @PresofPakistan@PakPMO , DPM/FM @MIshaqDar50, FS @amnabaloch4, colleagues at @ForeignOfficePk, @PakinChina_ and our consulates and countless institutions in Pakistan.
