Three days of meaningful dialogue, collaboration and shared learning have come to a close.

Kenya Red Cross was honoured to host representatives from 37 African National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, alongside 43 participants from across the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, for the Africa National Societies Consultative Meeting in Nairobi.

Discussions focused on strengthening volunteerism, advancing localization, mobilizing domestic resources, transformative leadership, constitutional governance, branding and collective approaches to addressing humanitarian challenges across Africa.

Collectively, we reaffirmed our commitment to strengthening National Societies, advancing humanitarian action and serving communities across Africa more effectively.

Across Africa, communities are leading the way in building resilient food systems, strengthening livelihoods, and creating solutions that address hunger and climate challenges.

In Taita Taveta County, Kenya, His Majesty King Letsie III of Lesotho, @ifrc Secretary General @jagan_chapagain, and @KenyaRedCross Secretary General @IrshadIdris witnessed how community-driven initiatives are creating opportunities through sustainable agriculture, value addition, and youth skills development.

From rice farming in Kimorigo to sunflower processing in New Town and vocational training in TaitaTaveta, these initiatives show what is possible when we invest together in long-term, locally led solutions.

IFRC Secretary General @Jagan_Chapagain has arrived in #Zimbabwe for engagements focused on strengthening locally led humanitarian action.

On his first day, he paid a courtesy visit to H.E. President Emmerson Mnangagwa and, alongside the leadership of @ZrcsRed held meetings with Cabinet Ministers to discuss humanitarian diplomacy, disaster preparedness, resilience and stronger cooperation in support of communities.

Kenya Red Cross Secretary General Dr. @IrshadIdris and IFRC Secretary General @Jagan_Chapagain met with Dr. @DavidNdii, Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors and Augustine Cheruiyot, Senior Advisor and Head of the Economic Transformation Secretariat.

The discussions explored the intersection between humanitarian action, economic resilience and national development planning, with particular emphasis on disaster risk management.

The meeting underscored the importance of ensuring that disaster preparedness and response planning does not discriminate on the basis of economic capability, recognizing that vulnerable populations often face disproportionate risks regardless of their economic status.

Food insecurity is one of Africa’s most urgent challenges, but solutions exist.

Speaking at a @IFRC event, 🇬🇧 High Commissioner @FCDOMattBaugh highlighted how partnerships can help strengthen food security and nutrition and build resilience across Africa.

.@IFRC, in collaboration with @KenyaRedCross and @UKinKenya, has convened senior government leaders, diplomatic missions, development finance institutions, multilateral organizations, philanthropic partners, and private sector representatives for a Strategic Partnerships and Diplomatic Dialogue focused on advancing long-term solutions to #FoodInsecurity.

The dialogue highlighted the Food and Nutrition Resilience Platform, an Africa-led initiative that brings together partners to support practical, locally driven solutions that strengthen livelihoods, improve nutrition, build climate resilience, and support stronger communities across the continent.

Through stronger partnerships and sustained investment in resilience, Africa has an opportunity to accelerate progress towards lasting food and nutrition security for millions of people.

His Majesty King Letsie III of Lesotho today joined a high-level round table on Strategic Partnerships and Diplomatic Dialogue at the JW Marriott Hotel, Nairobi.

The round table, co-convened by the @IFRC, Kenya Red Cross and the British High Commission, brought together government, diplomatic and Red Cross Red Crescent Movement representatives to advance investment and partnerships for food and nutrition resilience across Africa.

His Majesty King Letsie III’s visit to Taita Taveta, alongside KRCS Secretary General Dr. @IrshadIdris and @IFRC Secretary General @Jagan_Chapagain, has concluded.

As IFRC Zero Hunger Champion, the King toured rice fields, a rice processing plant, and a sunflower farm, and attended a youth skills graduation ceremony, witnessing firsthand how Kenya Red Cross, working alongside the County Government and with support from @BritishRedCross, is strengthening food security resilience through innovative local solutions.

Impact of the Integrated Food Security and Livelihoods Project, running for six years, so far: 2,500 farmers supported across 6,000 acres of crop and livestock production, 22,000 people reached with improved nutrition, and 2,860 youth empowered through skills training and innovation.

This engagement reaffirms our commitment to building lasting resilience in Kenya.

Met International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Secretary-General Jagan Chapagain at State House Nairobi. Thanked the organisation for continued humanitarian interventions in Kenya and across the region.

Assured Mr Chapagain of Kenya’s commitment to continue working with the Red Cross to strengthen the response to emergencies across our region.

I also briefed him on Kenya’s transformation agenda, especially in water harvesting, water storage and irrigation, through the National Infrastructure Fund. This will boost production and strengthen our country's food security.

The Technical and Experts Consultative Meeting (27–28 August 2025, Kampala) under the PREPARE Project begins today. This important step brings together specialists to deliberate on how Africa can strengthen its ability to prevent, detect, and respond to health threats.

The discussions will centre on disease surveillance, laboratory capacity, cross-border cooperation, workforce readiness, and the One Health approach, which recognises the close link between human, animal, and environmental health.

This consultation is about more than technical detail, it is about ensuring that our region is ready to manage future epidemics and pandemics without losing lives, livelihoods, or development gains. The message is clear: Preparedness Saves Lives.
