@PaulTTran I will email you the Harvard Business Review article that kicked it all off. All franchise candidates that I take through the discovery process are required to read it!
@doxavc@franchisewolf For the dessert and snack sector it all comes down to real estate selection. You need a franchisor who has the relationship with the big Landlords. Foot traffic = impulsive purchases. These concepts don’t do as well in grocery anchored neighborhood sites.
@DanReese21 Most leases have increases of 3% per year. Higher base rents mean higher annual percentage increases that compound.
Exits are dependent on a multiple of EBITDA. Higher rent (taking TI) means a lower valuation because your “debt” is on the P&L and not on the balance sheet.
@kickstartmyfran The “sold but not opened” stat needs to be examined in conjunction with the Item 20. Too many franchisees sell too much, too early, and are totally over their skis.
@FranchiseMnA You will see more emerging franchise concepts raise money before they sell their first franchise AND professional venture-type funds will come in to fill the gap between founder capital and private equity.
@DanReese21 The best description of a royalty (that I use) is that it is a sharing of the revenue that is earned through the integrated work between the franchisor and franchisee.
@mhp_guy@mhp_guy No one is talking about their real estate strategy. Candidates present a site as a part of their application. Impulse driven purchases (ice cream, cookies) are all about foot traffic. Leaving this decision in the hands of the franchisee might not be the best route.

Thanks to @franchisewolf for giving us a breakdown in his latest newsletter. If you're an "early adopter" and you have a passion for small businesses, it would be worth your while to subscribe to the newsletter.

#SelfCare can take so many forms. According to Natasha Spencer, more and more consumers believe self-care encompasses #beauty habits. I have to agree. Taking care of my #skin does so much for my body and mind.
