In the wake of Pope Leo XIV's appeal for the embattled Tigray region at his Sunday Angelus, the Bishops of Ethiopia have issued their own appeal for peace and prayer, stressing that armed conflict only worsens existing problems and decrying the painful reality that it harms the most vulnerable.

Enough is enough!
People in Ethiopia’s Tigray region are once again cut off from the internet + the world, with services disrupted since September 25.
The region has already endured a blackout lasting over two years in 2020. It must NOT happen again.
https://t.co/PdXtm8ePy8
People in Tigray told us what it meant to live through a prolonged internet shutdown that began in 2020 and lasted for more than 2 years.
Now, as fighting escalates and connectivity is disrupted again, their stories remind us what is at stake. #KeepItOn

We must continue to demand justice for the victims of the Tigray massacres:
Between 2020 and 2022, civilians in Tigray were slaughtered, starved, raped, and driven from their homes.
Eritrean troops, Ethiopian federal forces, and allied militias stand accused of some of the gravest crimes of this century in the Horn of Africa.
Survivors still wait. Mass graves are still unnamed. Perpetrators still walk free. A silence bought with a political deal is not reconciliation. It is abandonment.
Reporting that Ethiopia has hosted training for Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces, a force itself accused of mass atrocity, raises a brutal question: has a government that never answered for Tigray begun to export the same logic of proxy war across another border?
The Horn cannot survive another cycle of deniable camps, foreign trainers, and civilians treated as expendable.
Justice for Tigray is not a closed chapter. It is the test of whether this region will choose accountability or prepare the ground for the next massacre.

Abiy Ahmed's Drone Hits Maychew of Southern #Tigray, Civilians Injured
----
September 19, 2026 (Tigray Mass Media Agency) — Abiy Ahmed's genocidal regime in Ethiopia carried out a drone strike in Maychew of Southern Tigray, injuring civilians and damaging residential property and other assets, according to local reports.
The strike occurred at around 11:30 a.m. today, with injured residents reportedly rushed to hospital for medical treatment.
The latest attack has heightened concerns over civilian safety in Tigray, where local authorities have repeatedly reported drone strikes in civilian areas and damage to infrastructure.
Further developments, including verified details on casualties and damage will follow.
UTNA Condemns Drone Attacks in #Tigray, Calls for International Intervention
----
September, 2026 (Tigray Mass Media Agency) — Union of Tigrayans in North America (UTNA), US based civic organization representing the Tigrayan diaspora, has condemned what it described as the genocidal behavior of Abiy Ahmed’s government, citing continued drone attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure across Tigray.
In a September 12 letter addressed to the UN Secretary-General, U.S. Secretary of State, EU foreign-policy chief and the EU Special Representative for the Horn of Africa, UTNA said a drone strike on a school in Korem, Southern Tigray, on September 12 caused significant property damage.
The organization also cited reported drone strikes in Myshumet in Southeastern Tigray on September 8 that killed more than 10 civilians, including a child and three members of the same family. It further reported six consecutive strikes on civilian residences in Alaje District, Adi Gurae, on September 10, causing deaths, injuries and property destruction. UTNA said the attacks are affecting families, farmers, shoppers and children, while damaging schools, hospitals, homes and other civilian infrastructure.
The organization urged the international community to publicly condemn the attacks, use diplomatic channels to demand an immediate and verifiable cessation of aerial bombardments, support independent investigations into civilian casualties and facilitate unhindered humanitarian and medical assistance to affected communities.
UTNA warned that continued drone attacks could further deepen the humanitarian crisis and instability in the region.
Schools have become the most frequent targets of the #Ethiopian regime's #ENDF drones. Today, September 13, a two round consecutive drone strikes in Korem, southern #Tigray, struck another educational facility—Meskote Berhan Primary School—mirroring yesterday's devastating hit on Firesewat Primary School.
Forces under the direct command of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, who faces accusations of genocide, have executed multiple drone strikes in Tigray. These operations have reportedly targeted regions inhabited by civilians and containing essential infrastructure. On 12 September and in the early hours of 13 September, Ethiopian drone strikes occurred in the town of Korem, located in southern Tigray. These nocturnal attacks resulted in the destruction of two schools and their associated facilities. Such ongoing actions by the Ethiopian regime constitute significant violations of international humanitarian law. @SecRubio@StateDept@SenateForeign@SenatorShaheen@SenatorRisch@SenatorCardin

Abiy's Drone Damages Primary School in Korem, Southern #Tigray
----
September 12, 2026 (Tigray Mass Media Agency)- Three days after the International Day to Protect Education from Attack, the genocidal regime of Abiy Ahmed carried out a drone strike on Zikre Swat Primary School in Korem, Southern Tigray, damaging school property.
Korem City Administration said the drone strike took place on September 12, 2026. It reported damage to the school’s property
Observed annually on September 9, the International Day to Protect Education from Attack was established to draw global attention to the consequences of attacks on schools and other educational institutions, protect students and teachers from death, injury and psychological harm, and safeguard education as a protected civilian space during conflict. Its central message is that children must be able to learn in safety, free from the threat of violence.
The attack in Korem comes amid previously reported destruction of educational institutions across Tigray. Before today’s strike, the Tigray Education Bureau had warned that schools built at significant cost were being destroyed by ongoing airstrikes carried out by the dictatorial regime in Ethiopia.
It is to be recalled that the bureau has repeatedly called on the international community to ensure that Tigray’s education sector is not treated as a weapon of war and to establish accountability for attacks and destruction targeting educational institutions. It had also reported previous drone strikes on schools in Southern, Southeastern and Eastern Tigray that destroyed significant educational property.
The strike in Korem, occurring just three days after the International Day to Protect Education from Attack, has renewed calls for international action to safeguard Tigray’s schools and ensure that places of learning remain protected from the effects of conflict.

Ethiopia is fueling regional instability: bombing civilians and schools in Tigray while training the RSF in partnership with the UAE and allowing drones to cross into Sudan—a country that welcomed Tigrayan refugees. Its actions are fueling genocide at home and in Sudan.
