I need to raise awareness about an important point in #scRNAseq data analysis, which, in my opinion, is not acknowledged enough:
‼️In practice, most cell type assignment methods will fail on totally novel cell types. Biological/expert curation is necessary!
Here's one example👇
Our work “Single-cell eQTL mapping identifies cell type-specific genetic control of autoimmune disease” just published in @ScienceMagazine. The work started with the creation of the OneK1K cohort, consisting of scRNA-seq data on PBMCs from ~1000 donors https://t.co/Uzskay7TeM 🧵
Happy to see our paper published in @braincomms 👉https://t.co/x3j9Dh5jf6 In this paper, we looked at the associations between genetic variants in MHC region (HLA alleles and C4 copy number) and brain imaging phenotypes. Thanks to @mcraelab@WrayNaomi@BaptisteCouvy !!
You only know what your measurements say about your system to the extent that understand the noise in your measurements. This applies especially to scRNA-seq data, which is subject to severe sampling noise. See here our attempt at solving this problem: https://t.co/9SynpyPC3W 1/n
Lower genetically-determined angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) mRNA and protein levels are associated with increased risk of schizophrenia, warranting investigation into the role of ACE and effects of ACE inhibitors on patients with schizophrenia https://t.co/IV0hWalrO2
For anyone who got affected by COVID19 in Australia:
We are recruiting for a study trying to capture variation between people in symptoms and link that to DNA and/or antibody differences.

It was a pleasure to contribute to this collaborative work led by @WrayNaomi with Tian Lin @John_J_McGrath @J9_Austin @ian_hickie Peter Visscher @PCTGenomics https://t.co/Ed9iNIiJrc
This time last year Queensland had already recorded 36,874 flu cases.
As of August 10 this year, we've only recorded 5,918 – a massive 84% drop.
It's the result of our social distancing, hand hygiene, and staying home when we're sick.
Keep it up, Queensland.

Great review from @BaselmansBart, Loic Yengo, @wrheenen, and @WrayNaomi, comparing heritability estimates and genetic correlations from psychiatric disorders based on SNPs with those based on family relationships: https://t.co/HUfPuGKGEC
If you are in academia ie. #AcademicTwitter , please spend time reading through #BlackintheIvory
And please think about what can you do to change what's happening.
Thanks
